Temporary Clerkships

Postby Anonymous User » Wed Jul 18, 2018 1:10 pm

Question for all you fine people. I'm looking into some clerkships and found that there are a few open temporary clerkships that seems to run for at least one year. I was wondering if anyone had any information on them. Are the job duties any different from that of a 1-year term clerk? Are the job opportunities post-temporary clerkship as good as they would be for a term clerk? There doesn't seem to be much about them online, so any info would be helpful!

More often than not, a position is listed as temporary because (1) the funding for the position is temporary based on an increased case flow or (2) the chambers has a career clerk who is planning on taking a year off but will be returning to the position. In either of those events, the work is identical to a term law clerk position. In the first event, there may be some chance of the position losing funding during your term. In the second event, the time you spend in the clerkship will not count against your four years of term-law clerk eligibility. Bottom line, these positions are worth applying for and 9 times out of 10 you'll be able to list law clerk as your title just as if the position had been labeled a term law clerk position.
