What are my chances? / Where should I apply?

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Feb 06, 2018 9:40 pm

Transferred from a TT to a T14 this year. My GPA at T14 is 3.76. Should I be applying to circuits or will being a transfer preclude me? What are my chances at any fed clerkship? I don't know much about the process so any advice is much appreciated. Thanks.

Would need more information about your credentials. Are you on law review? Have you participated in moot court? Do you have solid letters of recommendation from reputable professors?

Judges weigh all of those when considering applicants.

I would try to compete in moot court (won't preclude you necessarily, but definitely would help for some judges).

With your grades and solid letters of recommendation, you should have a shot at landing interviews. Appellate clerkships in 2/9/DC are extremely competitive, so I would focus on flyover appellate courts and apply broadly for district ct clerkships. Do you have a geographical preference? If there is a certain market you want to eventually enter, I would recommend mass applying in that area.
