Negotiating clerkship bonus

Post by Anonymous User » Sun Oct 29, 2017 1:29 pm

Has anyone here successfully negotiated an above-market clerkship bonus at a firm that generally doesn't award above-market bonuses? I don't want to out myself, but I have extremely valuable district court + COA clerkships for the practice area I will be going into and have heard of people in my situation getting 100k bonuses at firms that don't usually hand out such bonuses. If someone has experience negotiating a higher bonus, could you generally describe how you went about getting it and/or post some redacted version of your email asking about a higher bonus? I assume a prerequisite would be that you have at least two firms interested in hiring you.

I figured something like this probably wouldn't go over well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7BuQFUhsRM
