I'm a bankruptcy clerk looking to join a bankruptcy group so I've been emailing partners of those groups with few responses and the few responses I've got are dings. Bankruptcy work is down dramatically so that doesn't help. I'm starting to apply to general lit as well and thinking I should just email the recruiting coordinators from now on.
I have not had success emailing firm recruiting people directly. In my experience, either there is an open position (post clerkship, entry level, or very junior lateral) that you should apply to directly or the recruiter will tell you that they have no open spots now/yet.

I know a lot of firms will have a section saying interested law clerks should just email them but I feel like that’s a lie.

Has anybody had success with a direct firm recruiter email with no open position?

Seconded! Both as to the congrats and the question of method. Given it's been a while, I assume I am out—but did they give any indication as to timing or if other offers were also going out?

What biglaw firms have been interviewing? The market does not seem to be moving very much...

In CA I’ve heard of: Gibson, munger, Jones Day, Kirkland, Hueston Hennigan, Farrella Braun, and Morgan Lewis all making varying degrees of movement

So, the real question is when will the FF REJECTIONS come? Maybe FF will wait until the next calendar year to let us know...

What's with all the FF love? Pretty unremarkable place to end up as a post-clerkship litigator no?

The dumb thing is that if they wouldn’t have been so assertive about their aggressive timeline, no one would really be thinking much of the silence. Not that they care.

From what they told me, they are offering rather competitive bonus/pay and seem to be moving earlier than almost all firms (and we are all probably anxious to have at least one offer). And they interviewed en masse. FWIW they are consistently #1 across the board in vault associate rankings, which may fool some people (I’ve workes in biglaw before so no illusions there).

The responses I've gotten from DC firms (the typical ones) is that February is the month.

Does Texas typically move slow compared to other markets for post-clerkship positions? I’m sure most people are targeting DC/NY but it seems like no movement in Texas yet.

Original Texas anon here. It’s been my impression from former clerks that January was when you should start sending stuff. I’ve probably gotten about 15 or so dings at this time. Other than that, nothing.

Are you sending stuff to open lateral posted positions? Or just to firms that say they like former clerks and to submit to recruiting manager?
