BuckleySandler's offices are recruiting clerks year round, all the time. They generally only hire clerks or laterals so theres almost always openings.

Heard about this position on First Mondays podcast at the one hour mark http://www.firstmondays.fm/episodes/201 ... al-hipness

Deputy Solicitor General position in the Wisconsin Department of Justice. Very solid office with lots of Seventh Circuit arguments and Supreme Court work. 100% appellate work with significant discretion in case involvement (based on office interest). The SG mentioned the office is filled with former federal and supreme court clerks so any clerkship of that caliber is obviously desired.

Job Location: Madison, WI

Instructions: Email resume, cover letter, and writing sample to mikalofskyal@doj.state.wi.us or contact the guys at first mondays for Misha's contact information.

OP here. I would not say “most” judges are open to it, but a significant number definitely are. But once you start getting more than 2 years out of LPW school I suspect the number of judges interested in that kind of applicant start to plummet.

If you clerked straight out of law school (or after a qualifying fellowship), you're still eligible for the DOJ Honors Program. Applications are due Tuesday 9/8 by 11:59 PM. When I interned for the DOJ, my supervisor said that clerks had a pretty big leg up in the process, even if they didn't have a long record of prior public service work.

Doesn't seem like there's a better active topic for this discussion so posting here:

I've gotten some interest from smaller/mid-size firms in secondary markets lately -- doesn't seem like they are ready to make offers, but it definitely seems like post-clerkship recruiting is starting to ramp back up slowly.

Absolute radio-silence from big firms in majors markets though.
