List of Firms and/or Positions for Current Law Clerks

Post by legalese_retard » Thu Feb 20, 2014 1:05 pm

I figure we should start a thread of law firms that are actively recruiting judicial law clerks. Please link to the job posting, or copy the position if it was posted on symplicity or job board.

If the job lead is from a firm solicitation to you or your chambers, please indiciate that fact and provide as much info you are comfortable sharing about your clerkship. For example:

Job Lead: Big & Badass LLP
Job Location(s): NYC, Philly, and DC
Source: Letter sent to Chambers from the firm's recruiter, school symplicity, heard from another law clerk, etc
Court Type: Fed. Appeal, Dist. Court, State Supreme Court, Fed. Mag., Bankruptcy, etc
Court Location: Boston, 2nd Cir., SDNY, Northeast, Kentucky, etc. (the more specific the better)
Instructions: Email resume, cover letter, and writing sample to Recruiter@bigbadass.com by end of April, etc.
Additional Info: Letter indiciated that it was only looking to hire a bankruptcy law clerk, firm said it would pay a bonus of $30K and moving expenses, firm explained that interviews would start in June, firm is looking for a judicial law clerk with additional experience, firm requires someone who already passed the California bar, etc. (or whatever info you think is interesting or beneficial)

I think this info will help out folks who are not in the popular districts as well as those who are looking outside of the market location of their clerkship.

For those unaware, the Department of Justice finally lifted its hiring freeze. There has been lots of paid AUSA job openings posted on the DOJ website in several cities across the country. A lot of these job postings require at least 3 years experience that can include clerkship experience.

Just posted today. Not specifically looking for law clerks, but given the two month experience requirement, I'd imagine that clerkship experience would help.

Vinson & Elkins LLP - New York:

Complex Commercial Litigation: Associate Attorney position in New York, NY. Researching and analyzing legal sources in connection with the applicable facts in order to render legal advice for complex commercial litigation, such as in class action lawsuits, and government investigations; investigating the facts and the law surrounding particular projects and cases and client needs to determine possible solutions to legal problems and potential causes of action; drafting the appropriate legal documents and pleadings for use in transactions and legal proceedings; rendering specialized legal services and counseling in matters of international law to clients; and representing and advising clients on intellectual property litigation and related issues; and evaluating the intellectual property rights associated with certain products, and technology implications of client transactions. The Associate Attorney position requires, at a minimum, a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree or a Masters of Law (LLM) from an accredited law school, or its foreign equivalent; a New York law license; and two months of relevant experience. I'm not licensed or have any connection to MA, so I am not applying to this job. My point in starting this thread is for people who have job leads but aren't looking for a job, or aren't looking in that region, would pass that information along here.

Headhunters keep sending me openings at Akerman, which require a judicial clerkship. They say they want 2-5 years experience, but I've been getting e-mails from these guys for 6 months, so maybe they'll dip down to 1 year:

Looks like multiple offices there have the same opening.

Altshuler Berzon sent a letter to my chambers this week (and I presume to all district and appellate courts within the Ninth Circuit) saying that they were looking for at least one associate to start in Fall of 2015. Super, super competitive, though. Most of their young associates have really solid credentials (think HYS and feeder-level circuit court clerkships).

It went to at least some districts outside of the 9th circuit, as well.

CoA clerk here. Non-feeder. T14, top 15%. 2L summer at V25 firm.

Sullivan & Cromwell sent a letter to chambers about a month ago.

I interviewed with Skadden, SullCrom, Cleary, and Simpson Thacher in January. New York offices for all. All actively recruiting clerks.

D. ct. clerk in 9th Circuit. We didn't get anything from them. But we got recruiting materials from SullCrom, Cleary, Reed Smith, and one other...I can't remember. I think MoFo.

(I'm not trying to go to a firm so I didn't pay much attention to them.)

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
