Called you or called all of her applicants? Do you know about Shannon and Gross? It appears that Shannon extended the time for candidates to submit OSCAR applications.

Walrath, Shannon, and Gross have hired for 2015-16.

Among the new ones, if anyone is interested in a heavy criminal docket (with lots of immigration issues), is Judge Alia Moses in Del Rio (TX). In calendar year 2013, the Del Rio division saw 1500 criminal cases filed, but only 80 civil cases filed.

Del Rio is fairly remote. It's a border town of 35,000 about 2.5 hour west of San Antonio. On the upside if you like boating of bass fishing, it's adjacent to Lake Amistad (a large international river on the US/Mexico border).

I know nothing about Judge Moses, but my judge, who also has a very heavy criminal docket, handles it entirely. We clerks do exclusively civil work. There are a number of other judges who do this, some of which intentionally don't make it explicit so they can gauge applicants' interest. (For instance, in my interview they asked me about any criminal work I had done, and I told them honestly that I had done exclusively civil work because I had 0 interest in practicing criminal law. This was a good response.)

So, it's important to know what clerks do and do not do, if possible, before applying.

Q for current clerks: say I noticed a typo in a resume and replaced it via OSCAR after I had already "finalized"/submitted my application. What do you see on your end? Does an "updated" application (if there's a note that it was updated) make an applicant look bad? Does it not matter at all as far as you're concerned?

Speaking as a current clerk who has been obsessively checking OSCAR applications (mostly for a fun diversion), I wouldn't even notice this. Don't sweat it.

ETA: It's common for applications to show up as "updated," usually because a recommender has uploaded a letter after the applicant submitted the application. This is why I wouldn't be likely to notice that your update was actually to your resume; I'd just assume that the update was initiated by a recommender.

Thanks! The clerkship application process is making me more OCD than I usually am.

Stephen Wilson is crazy. Like actually nuts.
Anyone willing to elaborate on this?

I don't know what restrictions are placed on you or the credentials you have but Clifton in Hawaii (9th Circuit) is still hiring for 2017-2018.

Not OP. I know someone who had a very bad experience. Don't know any specific details.

Also not OP, but I'm afraid that I can confirm this as well. I would stay away from him if you can -- much better clerkships out there.

Just landed a N.D.Ill clerkship for 2017! If you miss out on the early set of judges, don't discount the late. And keep trying. (This was my third interview.)

Dolly Gee and Dean Pregerson are both great. Good judges, good bosses. Cormac Carney is unorthodox, and probably not everybody's cup of tea, but he's brilliant and a great guy; I like him a lot. Andre Birotte seems promising, but it's too soon to tell.

Avoid Manuel Real (duh) and Otis Wright.

This is innacurate. Judge Wilson is rather intelligent and very nice. I would be surprised to find a former clerk of his that had a negative experience, but i guess these posters say they're out there despite my disbelief.
Therobingroom reviews are pretty funny, though. Like 90% of them are animal rights activists that are mad he struck down CA's foie gras ban.

This is totally off base. Very easy to make statements like this behind the security blanket of "Anonymous User". I've met the man myself and he's extremely nice. I also know several people who worked for him and none have anything bad to say, and he's very well regarded by the Pasadena Ninth Circuit judges, having sent clerks on to Smith, Wardlaw, Fisher, and I'm sure others.

Edited to add: The Almanac of the Federal Judiciary is a much better gauge of his reputation.

robingroom is entertaining, but absolutely not reliable at all.
