I received an email that McKeague is full for 2017-2018 but it might have just been a kind rejection.

Same email for McKeague. Julia Gibbons is also full. I've spoken with a few other 6th Circuit judges over the past week and I think it'll be 2-3 weeks before they move, if not more.

Judge Cook is actively interviewing (3+ interviews in the last week or so for 2 remaining spots.)

Judge Thapar spoke at our law school and said he only hires students who are #1 in their class and have no less than 3 letters of recommendation from people that he personally knows and trusts. Oh and they also have to write really well.

That's an embellishment--I know two future Thapar clerks from my school who are extremely bright and probably ranked in the top 3-4 of their classes, but neither was #1.

Yeah needless to say most of us law students who attended the talk (and who were also interested in federal clerkships) were pretty dismayed.

Thapar is a self-promoter and likes to say things like this. He hires extremely accomplished clerks but they certainly aren't all #1 in their classes.

He's already hired at least one for 2019-20, on the theory that he'll be confirmed to the 6th by then.

I assume the district clerks he's already hired will also just come along for the ride.

CA6 is going to be like 50% conservative feeders now. Thapar, Sutton, Kethledge, Larsen.

I heard her name was floated for SCOTUS, but what makes you think she'll be (a) nominated to CA6 and (b) a feeder?

David McKeague on CA6 is taking senior. She's a virtual lock for that seat.

Several sources indicate the Trump team is trying to get her on a circuit ASAP.

She's also sent a couple up already I think, and has definitely sent some in to Sutton, so I think it's safe to assume she'll be a feeder.

She was instrumental in getting every Supreme Court clerkship that a Michigan student has obtained in the last 5+ years. Safe to assume she will have some feeder potential.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
