I'll be on the SouthEast corner of IC, but it's maybe a block off of Hwy 6, so it's only about an 8 minute drive. I'll probably need to double check on the bus lines before I drop some money on a parking permit though.
Its pretty pricey... $685 for the whole year I think. There's a church nearby that sometimes has spots available for $30/month. Or ask a classmate who lives close to campus if they have extra spots.

Got my financial aid award letter this week. I had messed up and didn't mark that I was full time (I just put 9 credits so they had to adjust it) but they fixed it. Stoked I got a little bit of the Perkins loans.

I also thought it was 120. Regardless, 100-130 class size is going to offer you guys great job opportunities.

Agreed... And it doesn't hurt people with scholarships because they dropped the ranking stipulations. You guys are going to have a great class. Especially with the legal market picking up.

Looking around the Twin Cities' "biglaw" market, from appearances, next year's summer classes will be slightly larger than this summer's. Traditionally, there are about 10 2L SA spots in Minneapolis biglaw for Iowa grads. That is just one market, and it isn't going anywhere, so do the math on the rest of the class.

Does anyone know what the name of the parking lot that law students can buy a super expensive permits for?

Yep, Myrtle Lot. There are two types of passes... One is a fully paid pass, which is like $685 or something, and you can park there all of the time except for football games. The other is a sticker that allows you to pay per hour (65 cents I think, and only in full hours, which sucks for 1-hr long classes lol). You pay for the lot between (I think) 7:30am-4:30pm. After 4:30 Myrtle lot is free and open to whoever, but you have to have the sticker to pay per hour otherwise you get a ticket even if you've paid.

As a 1L, paying per hour is probably not a viable method.

According to the section assignments, it looks like the class is only 97 people so far. Wow.

Thats how Colins Bird was making it sound yes. He said, If Iowa generally places, say 10 people in Minneapolis Big law jobs, do you want to fight for the 10 spots with 150 other Iowa grads or 100 other Iowa grads?

I guess thats assuming the amount of Iowa grads each market will take will not go down if the class size goes down.

I feel like this is a logical fallacy that fewer grads = easier or more employment. See declining class sizes at Iowa from 250 to 94 over the last 6 years and still declining employment prospects.

There is a glut of laid off attorneys in Minneapolis with 4 local law schools that don't have anywhere close to full or decent employment. The problems with law are two fold. 1. Too many graduates / practicing attorneys for the amount of work and 2. structural changes due to automation / digitization / network effect of the practice of law.

2L perspective: I think the class of 2016 is going to have a great job search outcome. Speaking from my class perspective, people seem to be getting (full-time, legal track) jobs this summer without being at the top of the curve. Obviously, if you want the 160,000models&bottlesbiglaw, Iowa has never been the school and it won't be in the future, but it is certainly happening for people lower down the class rank than before.

I'm with Dport here - Ignore Typ3, he's bitter and bored for no apparent reason.

No, law is not the best career choice. But if you think you really want to be a lawyer, there's really no way to do that other than go to law school right? Even 3L OCI is getting better. It's not all doom and gloom.

Why go into the legal profession with a finance background? Makes little sense since you're on the reactionary side of business in law rather than pumping the capital returns. I mean there is a reason people with business backgrounds that want returns leave the legal side to go back to ibank/finance. http://www.law.harvard.edu/news/bulleti ... ltext.html

Again, because I wanted to be a lawyer, not work in finance.

Not everything is about what makes the most money, dude.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
