So it's been three weeks and they still haven't told you whether or not you're getting aid? :?

I mean, you're most likely paying sticker, but they should still send you the budget so you know how much you're supposed to borrow.

Yeah, it's kind of irritating. But, hopefully it will come this week/early next. Otherwise, I'll probably have to call, since it will be a month next week and that is pretty ridiculous. I agree about the sticker fact, but would definitely be nice to get some sort of budget/see what loans they are giving me (perkins would be amazing, but who knows at this point!).

But if for some reason you need to move in earlier, you can request it. And I think they may let you move in earlier if you're invited to the Academic Orientation Program--if they still do that.
Lacepiece couldn't confirm because he hasn't been told yet. He just reiterated what I said about how it was a Saturday last year and people invited to AOP would probably be able to move in a week early. And in case anyone's wondering, AOP is basically a week-long extra orientation for people who wrote diversity statements. Apparently the invites will be coming out "soon."

I'd love to attend this but didn't write a DS. Anything I can do ?

I swear after I typed that I thought to myself: "I bet toothbrush didn't write a DS, but will want to attend this."

You can ask Lacepiece if there's anything you can do to put your name in contention or if he thinks you might get an invite anyway based on your ethnicity. But from what he told me, it sounds like they just invite everyone who wrote a DS. I'm not sure if they ever invite anyone who didn't write one.

lol! Thanks!

I just pm'd him. How did you find out about this AOP ? What's that stand for anyways? Did you write a DS ?

Academic Orientation Program. You know me. I read old threads.

And no, so I won't be getting invited.

you need to do a summary/tl;dr of everything that you've read that is important. :D

Yeah, I figured no DS from you. Kinda sucks. I wish that AOP was open invite. A one day orientation doesn't seem like enough for me. Especially considering I slept through ASD :D

I've heard there's no real academic boost, it's just a way to meet people earlier.

If you want a brief history of the program, you can read this post: http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewt ... 5#p3233570

It literally makes zero difference. Everyone is equally confused once they start Clermont's Civ Pro. Just explore Ithaca, get drunk, and have fun instead of sitting in class and having homework. The week before class started was one of the most fun weeks I've had in my life.

Edit: It = whether you attend AOP or not

I figured as much. Seems pretty short notice for people moving in the 24th with orientation on the 26th. Will enjoy nonetheless. I'll probably move in early August 'cause I'm in Collegetown terrace

I do agree with Lincoln. However, concerning AOP I would highly encourage anyone invited to attend. I did not in large part to TLS. I read that there was no boost and was pretty much like screw it I'm not wasting my time. I really regret it now. I noticed that people who had the chance to attend formed some really good relatinships with each other and professors that I definitely missed out on early on. Its nice having a professor that you can go to just to talk about life. I know its hard to see now and don't get me wrong grades are REALLY improtant. You should be devoting like 99% of your effort to doing the best that you can. However, this sort of falls in that 1% of an intangible experience. If you get invited definitely go. You will not regret it.

Edit: And you will get to hang out with me for a week. I promise that we'll have a lot of fun.

If you don't know how to make connections with professors outside of AOP, you have more serious problems, IMO.

AOP doesn't matter so much that I didn't even notice who went and who didn't. Just saying.

where did I say that you could not make connections with teachers outside of AOP? Of course I made relationships with professors after AOP like anyone else could. Thats not the point. Also, don't appreciate the tone of your comment.

When I wrote "you" I meant it in the sense of "if one does not..." I have no idea who you are IRL, so any perceived insult directed at you is a misreading of my comment.

I just meant that I haven't seen any difference whatsoever between students who went to AOP and students who didn't. My roommate was at AOP; I wasn't. I have more friends than my roommate does and much closer relationships with professors (including ones who were involved with AOP). Of my closest group of friends, two went to AOP and three did not. We became good friends in spite of that, and we all have good relationships with professors.

I think if you belong to a discrete minority AOP can be helpful because you get to know others belonging to that same minority before classes start and get a chance to hang out. I partied with grad students for a week instead and don't regret it for a second. Almost getting arrested for skinny dipping and making out in the public swimming pool at 2 a.m. was definitely more memorable than dinner at Professor Johnson's house. But I guess reasonable minds can differ.

0Ls: Go to AOP or don't go to AOP; I really don't care. When I was in your situation I was kinda butt hurt for not being invited. In hindsight, I'm glad I had more time to be irresponsible.
