My face must know when I'm taking a picture for an ID because I just look stupid every time.

Anyone know if there is any use to having a tablet in lawl school? I'm about to start my computer shopping/searching. Sounds like a nifty little toy, but I don't know if I'd have any real use for it.

0L here, but I used my iPad during my last year of UG. I didn't get a keyboard and just used the touch screen to take notes in Pages, and it worked pretty well but I definitely lost a lot of typing speed. I probably won't use it for taking notes in law school just because I'll want a little more functionality and speed, though it will certainly come in handy to read notes, cases, etc. when I don't feel like carrying my laptop around. If you get a good external keyboard, a tablet could probably work just fine for most uses though (i can't tell if this is what you're saying or not) I would never rely solely on a tablet and go without a laptop altogether. From what I've heard, laptops are necessary for exams.

Cornell uses Exam4 for exams. You have to have Windows 7, Windows 8, or whatever Apple laptops use. Check out the FAQ (http://www.exam4.com/userguide). They explicitly say the "Surface Pro" is not acceptable even though it uses the same hardware and OS as Windows 8 laptops. This probably means no tablet is acceptable, which is unfortunate.

A couple of people take notes with tablets. Re: exams, you can request to use a law school computer for exam (I'm not sure how this works since I did not do it).

I think people learn them after activating the NetID--which I haven't gotten yet.

Not sure whether that part of the form is required or not.

If you go to fill out the student health form your student id number should be filled in somewhere on the form automatically (thats how I found mine). Also, i saw in the financial email that they need to have a copy of our tax return in order to dispense awarded scholarship funds, but didnt we have to give them a copy to be considered for the scholarships in the first place?

Did you log in with your NetID or your e-mail address when you filled it out? Because I already mailed mine and the student ID line wasn't filled in. I just left it blank because it wasn't required.

I know they need the tax returns to disburse the loans; not sure about the scholarship funds. Technically, people who were awarded scholarships during the dean's scholarship contest didn't need to send in tax returns to receive those.

I am not that poster, and I have not lived there, but I know people who live there and can attest that that apartment is convenient, full of great people, and nice.

Thanks for the endorsement, Arbiter.

The admins also posted the link on our facebook page now. Should be filled up soon with all the people getting in off reserve.

Are any of you in Ithaca? I have a free iClicker to donate to a lucky 0L. (You need it for Clermont's Civ Pro.) They're about $30 new or $10 used, IIRC.

Nope. In NYC until late August. And it looks like the Cornell Store is selling them for $40 new and $30 used. Is that where everyone usually buys them?

Got it. Looks like the older generation used ones do start around $10 on Amazon.

This may sound silly, but I cannot figure out the move in date for Hughes. Anyone know what it is or where I can find it? I know the first day of classes/orientation but I assume you can move in to Hughes prior. Just trying to plann accordingly of when I should arrive.

Pretty stoked to meet all you folks and start exploring Ithaca.

It's August 24th. The Saturday before orientation. I'll try to find a link with the time.

Edit: Ok, I found the link, but it hasn't been updated from last year, so it still says August 18th. The first day of our contract period is the 24th so I'm sure it's the 24th.

From http://living.sas.cornell.edu/live/movi ... udents.cfm :

Please plan to arrive and move in to your residence on the first day of your contract period.

[...]

Hughes Hall – Check in at the Hughes Hall Service Center beginning at 9:00am on Saturday, August 18 to pick up your keys and move-in information. Please print out a Hughes Hall unloading permit and display it on your dashboard while you park temporarily in the Hughes parking lot to get your keys and unload your car.

The housing contract in the portal has this listed as the academic year:

13/14 Academic Year (8/23/2013 - 5/21/2014)

Are you sure you can't move in on the 23rd?

Just signed a lease in collegetown terrace (106 valentine pl). It's crazy we have to put so much money down upfront for them, but whatever -- it happens.

What is this health form everyone is talking about? I only got in about 3 weeks ago, so clearly I'm behind the times.

Under "Occupants" it should have your name and in parentheses "Aug-24-13 - May-14-14." Plus it was a Saturday last year, so I'm 99.9% sure. I PM'd lacepiece about it so he should be able to confirm.

But if for some reason you need to move in earlier, you can request it. And I think they may let you move in earlier if you're invited to the Academic Orientation Program--if they still do that.

It's on the new students page. If you don't have your NetID yet (like me), you need to create an account with your e-mail address. Then get your immunization records, access the health history form, fill it out using the records, print it and either have your doctor sign or attach a copy of your records as proof. You don't need the physical.

Thanks! I also just got about a million e-mails from financial aid, none of which includes my actual financial aid notification letter (was just info about how loans are disbursed, bursar payments, etc.). So many things to take care of in such a short period of time...
