Yeah idk why some people from previous years were turned off by Chicago ASW. I thought it was awesome in pretty much every way, and everybody I met pretty much felt the same way.

ETA: There were some pretty strange 1Ls though. I wonder if there's any truth to that rumor about the interviewing program lol.

Chicago starts much later than most other schools, so there is no pressing need to get in that early. Orientation doesn't begin until Sept 16th, and even that is a soft date:

On the other hand, it's a cool city and it is much easier to go exploring pre-classes.

I'd like to be up there in August, but I think for practical reasons (roommates, renewing leases, etc) I'll move up in early September.

July 1st. (Really.)

As I've mentioned previously, though, my company will let me work remotely for a couple of months before I finally phase out at the end of August, so I might not be a good reference.

Is Regents even going to have apts available that early? I'm worried they won't have the apt I want for the date I want, but I guess we'll find out in May.

No idea... I called and tried to get in touch with Philip in the leasing office Saturday, but never got a call back, so I sent an email yesterday asking about available units for the time frame I am looking at, but I have yet to receive a response.

I called him on Sat. too, and didn't get a response either :(

On the website it shows some apts available for July right now. (Click on "Apply Now" in the top left at http://www.regentsparkchicago.com/)

FYI the Regents leasing office is run really poorly, so good job starting early because they work on their own schedule.

Most of my classmates moved in around labor day last year, plus or minus a week. There might have been a few moved in during August, but it was definitely a minority. There are furniture and mattress sales around labor day too so added benefit.

What do studios run at Regents? I'd love to live in a 2BR, but my SO will be moving to Chicago in the spring so I think it's a bit impractical. I still want to live at Regents just for the proximity to the rest of the 1L class though.

Also, what email did you guys use to get in touch with them?

lol yeah.... I finally got an email from the guy I had been working with at the leasing office this morning saying "Let's talk on the phone," but when I called, he was on the phone, so the lady at the leasing office I talked to said that they'd have him call me as soon as he got off the phone... 3 hours later no call, so I call, and he is out on a tour, so I get to talk with this chick and it is her 2nd day there, and she's like "you need to reserve this $1700-a-month 1 bedroom on the 25th floor or else they'll all be gone" and I'm like "ummmm...... can you just have Philip return my call?" To which she says "I can axe him."

I was probably the guy on the phone with Phillip when you called :P

and he told me he'd email me shortly with a link to the application form that I need to fill out.

A couple hours later... still no link :(

I guess I just have a different perception of the word 'shortly'

Studios run at around 1100 before the discount.

Unsolicited advice from an alum: there are a lot of awesome buildings in that same area that are cheaper/comparably nice/still close to the rest of the 1L class. I live in a huge 1BR for 900/mo on the corner of 51st and Cornell, and the management company is super easy to deal with. There are cheaper 1BRs/studios in the building; I pay a bit more for a great view of the city.

Regents is okay, but way overpriced - though I don't know how much the discount is. Is it a lot?

Its a $100 discount. To live in a nice building with all those amenities, I don't see how its overpriced. But admittedly I have not looked at any other options.

Cheapest 1BR's are around 1200 before discount, but no view...

$1000 (with the discount) for a studio is definitely a price I can live with. I get that there are other, cheaper, options, but I really value being close to the rest of the class for the first year.

What utilities are included at Regents? I know they have the weird heating bill system that sucks.

I think electricity and internet are included. Heat is not, but its capped at 70.

I dunno, I guess for me the only amenities offered by Regents worth paying for are:

-The gym, but you get a free Ratner membership anyway. To be fair it's nice not to have to go to campus to work out, and the bus system could well be shitty next year.
-Central air/free utilities. This is a legit benefit. But I think combined my electric/internet is only like 60-80$/mo. Water/trash is ALWAYS paid by the landlord in Chicago. This isn't enough to account for the price difference between Regents/its neighbors.
-The doorman, but we have one in my building too. It's not standard in hyde park, most places are walkups. Really nice when you aren't around to get packages/etc.

I just don't want people to think Regents represents Hyde Park market prices - it doesn't! If anyone wants recommendations I'd be happy to help people find a better place.
