A lot of graduate students here have families, so 2bdrms are often used by one family. Graduate housing does vary significantly according to size and utilities included, though, so you should check that. Also it's worth checking whether the night shuttles (North/South/East/West) run near 53rd and Dorchester... if the 171 and 172 are going to be cancelled in August, as it would seem, these will be the only way to cut short your walk home. FWIW as of right now they only operate starting at 6pm and leave from the Reg.
Thanks for the info. That will probably be the lowest I've ever paid for a shared apartment...wow. I think I'm just starting to appreciate the COL differences. Assuming no night shuttle, do you think it would be safe to walk back to 53rd from the law school after 10 pm? I would basically be walking through campus, right?
I walk home to 52nd (and pretty far west) late at night plenty, but I'm always scared I'll get mugged. Never have been, but I'm a big dude so that might be part of it. 53rd is off-campus; it's pretty bust itself until about woodlawn and further west, but walking to it from the law school will take you through some dark neighborhood streets.
This is all good to know - thanks. I might just go with Regents until I know what I'm doing.
