(He did also tell us that he'd like to stay somewhere in HP if they can find space... and no wonder, they've done great.)
I asked them the last time I went as well, and they were very surprised when I brought it up. The word I got was that they have a lease for a few more years in that building, the other tenants are getting pushed out because their leases were expiring.

As for tonight, sadly my mom is in town and I won't be able to escape. Always up for Rajun Cajun otherwise, though!

Damnit I wish I saw this...My sister-in-law is in town and this would have been a perfect opportunity to GTFO out of my apartment

PSA - Buy your books used unless you are assigned a brand new edition. I respect people wanting to have a clean copy but just start searching earlier and you can get a used version that is clean. Here in a couple of days you all will get added to the bookserv email list and get bombarded with opportunities to buy from 2Ls/3Ls too.

In case it isn't clear, those "recommended" books are recommended by the bookstore (as in, "we recommend you give us more money"), NOT by the professors. Do not buy any supplements right now - make friends with a 2L and get theirs, look at the ones in the library to see which is best for you, etc.

Also, a legal writing E&E? wtf?

A few of those books are worthless. And don't buy supplements until you've spoken to 2/3Ls. I'm happy to dole out my valuable (worthless) advice on what you should/should not buy through PM.

Going to third the recommendation not to buy supplements now. Your professors might recommend some (or tell you they explicitly do not want you to read others). Talk to 2Ls/3Ls, you have plenty of time.

None of you get to have Property with Helmholz so you should probably just defer admission for a year.

I, for one, think getting a 163 on a final is part of the Chicago experience.

Has anybody else waived the student health insurance? I did so but apparently the selection isn't finalized until 4 weeks after the start of the quarter so it's still showing up on the tuition bill. Do I need to talk to somebody about it, or do I just need to pay it for now and that part of the bill will eventually be refunded?

Yeah.
This email confirms the insurance selections for Student ID: XXXXXX

According to our records, you have:

** Waived the U-SHIP plan for yourself. **

You may change your insurance selection, noted above, until the insurance enrollment/waiver deadline: 5 p.m. on Friday of the 4th week of the quarter. After that, the insurance selection on record with the University will be binding for the remainder of the plan year. Unless you have waived U-SHIP, you will be responsible for the assessed insurance premium assessed on your student account.

If you have any questions, you may contact us by email at uchicagoadvocates@uhcsr.com or by phone at 773-834-4543 (select option #2).

Ugh... my Internet has been like this since yesterday... Anyone else at Regents having abysmally-slow connectivity problems? This is not abnormally slow, it's pretty standard for MDU. We struggled with it all year and every time we called and bitched they said it was because of high use, including at 11 PM on a Tuesday one time.

I hadn't picked up on that. Way to awaken my superstitious side, Reg.

Seems like an interesting lineup of orientation things. Are most people doing the optional stuff?

Yea, I'm doing just about every optional event other than some of the clubs that I have no business belonging in i.e. Latino, Women's, Asian-American, etc.

I signed up for e-bill but don't have a balance due yet. Any word on when to expect loan refunds via direct deposit? Should I expect it during the first week of classes like in undergrad?

Last year it usually disbursed about a week after it's "due" (so expect your $ around 9/27). But sometimes if it's your first one your bank may get confused, apparently, so it may be worth it to call and tell them to expect a large deposit around that time.
