I'm in too. Thanks, Regulus!Regulus wrote:
Hey you all,
I think that a few more TLSers might have moved to the Hyde Park area since our last get-together (that was kindly hosted by Snuffles1), so I’m thinking about putting on another event at my place in Regents on the weekend of August 16th (tentatively at 8:00pm on that Friday, but if people can’t make it then we can do it on the 17th or 18th). Like last time, it will be BYOB (or mango juice or whatever else you like to drink ), but my wife and I will provide some Japanese finger food to munch on.
Just post here in this thread if you’re interested so that we can get the ball rolling!
Of course I am in!

I have definitely received more than 10 packages, and have not been charged. I don't think this is actually a thing, though I may be wrong.BigDreamer wrote:Anyone know anything about Shoreland apartments? Safe area? Pros? Cons?

I lived in the Shoreland as an undergrad, back when it was a dorm run by the university. It changed hands in 2009 and has been in-development ever since.BigDreamer wrote:Anyone know anything about Shoreland apartments? Safe area? Pros? Cons?

It's an awesome building - crazy views, very jazz-era ornate, probably among the best locations in Hyde Park. It kind of had a reputation as a party dorm and it lived up to that; people absolutely trashed it the last year it was open. I have no idea what MAC has done with it - I tried to get an appointment to see it a couple weeks ago, but they never returned my emails - but it's pretty surprising that it'll be ready this fall. Even up until a few weeks ago it didn't look ready. Have you talked to them? When's the first move-in date? I have a feeling it might not be in time for orientation.
You should also know that MAC has an extremely poor reputation among the undergrads. Despite owning half the apartments in Hyde Park, they do not have their shit together and there are a ton of horror stories out there. I've heard they've gotten better over the last couple years, but still, rent at your own risk from them. I think a couple people on this board live in the Del Prado, so they could probably speak more to that.
I'd be very jealous of anyone who moved in there - I was tempted myself, just for nostalgia's sake - but personally the price is a bit much.

No I'm not moving in I emailed them today to inquire but I'm supposed to be signing my lease with Regents this week...I've been putting it off with all the negative comments! I heard shoreland has awesome Internet, gym, & in-unit washer/dryer so I was really interested! Well if you haven't heard back then I guess my chances are zilch btw is it by a bus stop that can take you directly to school?beepboopbeep wrote:I lived in the Shoreland as an undergrad, back when it was a dorm run by the university. I would love to get a list of people who sign up for clerical work. It's going to serve as a comprehensive guide to the 2016 gunners.

Oddly enough, lots of people didn't try for the play with animals option last year. It was at PAWS Chicago last year. They had us do some minor grunt work when we first got there (filing, putting together those cones they use on sick dogs), but most of our time was spent with adorable furry creatures.

Luckily, "putting together those cones they use on sick dogs" is one of my interests on facebook.AspiringAcademic wrote: Oddly enough, lots of people didn't try for the play with animals option last year. Made me seriously question the wisdom of my new classmates

Re: Chicago Law Class of 2016
Yea, this is another example of them not having their shit together. I'd maybe call MAC and talk to them directly? Regents is Regents - some people love it, some don't, but it does have the benefit of most of the first-year class living there. I'm not sure where the positive reviews for Shoreland are coming from as I'm pretty sure it's not open yet. I'd imagine everything would be similar to the Del Prado, which is a really similar building overall and was remodeled by MAC two years ago.BigDreamer wrote: No I'm not moving in I emailed them today to inquire but I'm supposed to be signing my lease with Regents this week...I've been putting it off with all the negative comments!
