A student at the housing panel mentioned something like "I'm sure a lot of you use Top Law Schools or other online forums."

Btw it's criminal how much the tastiness of Austin food is factoring into my decision making process at this point. The food scene here is redic.

Who else is attending for sure (and no, posting on this thread does not mean one is attending)?

UT is one of my top two right now. Still waiting on a couple of other schools. It will all come down to money for me most likely but I am excited about the prospect of attending!

I would encourage all of my fellow TLS and UT Fall 2013 bretheren (and sisteren) to mark your GPA and LSAT in your profile. This will help the next cycle of applicants have a more accurate outlook on their chances of getting accepted, waitlisted, or rejected. TLS stats can't report the information that will help future applicants otherwise.

TLS stats helped me tremendously in deciding where to apply. I (and I am sure you) wish the same for others.

A question for current UT students and those individuals familiar with Austin:

Would it be convenient to get to the law school from The Bluffs at Town Lake (LinkRemoved)?
(traffic, parking, etc.)

Also, what would be some pros/cons of not living with other law students (or UT students)? I would be living with a best friend from UG and his colleagues/friends.

I think those apartments would work fine. Interstate 35 traffic is always a beast, but you're really close to the law school so it shouldn't be too bad and you can probably bypass using I-35 anyways. You're right on off Oltorf and I know there's UT buses that run from there, so that's an option if you want to avoid parking.

Someone else might be better able to answer the parking question since I've be out of school for a while, but when I was in undergrad a garage permit ran around $500 or you could get a C lot permit for around $100, but those spots aren't guaranteed and run out early in the morning.

I don't see any problem living with non law students as long as they're not gonna drive you crazy/nuts haha

It's almost impossible for a 1L to get a parking spot at the San Jac garage, from what I know. They told my friends you pretty much have to get a pass for the summer before you start to have a chance at getting one because of the priority stuff they use. Most people I know that drive to class just fight for hourly parking on Dean Keeton or have a non-garage parking pass and have to walk a bit (I don't know what pass is used, but I know one guy parking on Red River just off of Dean Keeton; 5~ minute walk).

I would honestly suggest taking a bus from that location. It's free for students anyways.

And living situations is completely a case by case basis. If you know they'll respect that you have shit to do near the end of the semester and won't have time to fuck with them, it'll be fine. And I know people that had pot luck law school roommates that have loved and hated it. No complete horror stories, though.

Welcome all to UT Law! I am a graduate and only plan on hiring future alum in the future. If anyone has any questions as to solid pathways to trial/litigation or just what it is like, I'd be more than happy to answer those questions.

Can you give an overall feel of the city and campus? Is it laid back, or competitive? Is a stressful or relaxed city? What other cities could you favorably compare it to?

I think Austin is EXTREMELY laid back, at least, compared to Houston, anyways. I think San Antonio compares favorably to Austin as far as the laid back attitude is concerned.

Austin is technically a large city. Yet, it doesn't really feel that way other than the horrible traffic. The traffic on I-35 near campus is just absolutely horrible! Other than that, Austin is a pretty cool, laid back town. I think it is very relaxed. It's pretty chill.

And the law school atmosphere mirrors the city. I did not find it competitive at all. And I found the law students remarkably laid back for law school. A significant portion of law students wear flip flops around campus. That's indicative of a very laid back campus if you ask me.

OK all you exprerienced UT Law students. I am beginning my search for internet providers in the austin area. What are the best providers you are aware of?

Thanks in advance.

UT's campus is really relaxed. People here generally give out a chill vibe -- that's one of the things that sealed the deal for me three years ago, and I was not disappointed. Some people do get unlucky and end up in small sections with obnoxious gunner types, but that's inevitable at a large-ish school.

I think Austin presents itself as more laid-back than it really is, especially in the popular areas, which get crowded fast. But everybody finds something they enjoy doing to relieve some of the law school stress.

Not Time Warner. My apartment complex has a deal with them, and I'm very much looking forward to picking my own provider when I leave town in May.

What sort of alternatives are there? Of course the answer to this question depends on the exact location one is discussing, but I have found it very difficult to find any other service company near the school.

Do any other Internet service providers cover the area near the school?

P.S. I am going to be living in the Far West (up north a bit). "The Ridge".

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
