That seems crazy! It's possible I'll feel differently after trying to find an apartment in the craziness that is the NYC rental market, but still, rent in NYU housing feels kind of too absurd to be an option.

I was in the first wave of RD admits but didn't get the housing email.. is anyone else still waiting for it?

Yeah I just realized that I didn't get it either, hah. Accepted 1/17.

I didn't get it either... Maybe you have to put down your seat deposit to get emails like that?

Nope, I'm a fairly recent admit and haven't put down a deposit but I got that email a week or so ago.

ETA: received it Feb 20th.

Me neither; haven't deposited. Was there anything in it that's not on the website?

I'm not sure why some people didn't get it. I have not put down a deposit, and I was accepted last week. Below is the full text of the email, so you can be sure you're not missing anything:
NYU Law Residence Services wrote:Welcome to NYU School of Law Housing!

Congratulations on your acceptance to New York University School of Law. We look forward to having you join our residential community.

NYU School of Law student housing offers a variety of smoke-free living arrangements within its two high-rise apartment-style residence halls and two low-rise apartment buildings. Most student residents live in private bedrooms within shared two- or three-bedroom apartments. Family housing accommodations (in the form of studios and one-bedroom apartments) and one-person studios and one-bedroom apartments are available in very limited quantity.

Approximately two-thirds of the entering class will choose to live within the 4 residence halls. Living in the residence halls will allow students the opportunity to engage fully in the NYU Law experience. Mercer Street Residence and D'Agostino Hall, our two high-rise facilities, feature twenty-four hour security and maintenance staff coverage, NYU-TV cable television, NYU-Net local telephone system, which includes voicemail and call-waiting, and NYU ResNet, which provides high-speed wireless and data capability. Complementing the private living spaces are meeting/study rooms, laundry rooms, game rooms, lounges, and terraces designed to encourage discussion, interaction and informal socializing. Also, these residential buildings house the student journal office, the Student Bar Association, and many other student organizations. Please see the specific building descriptions on our Web site for full details of all our facilities, including apartment layouts and furnishings.

Law School housing, offering numerous amenities, advantageous rates, and an ideal NYC location, is a wonderful option for all students.

The housing application for entering students will be available on the Residence Services Web site staring on March 15, 2013. We encourage you to submit the Housing Application & License for Entering Students as early as possible before the May 15, 2013 priority deadline, after you have submitted your intent to enroll.

Again, congratulations on your admission to NYU School of Law. We look forward to receiving your application and to welcoming you to our community.

Sincerely,

Nancy Mah Chau
Director of Residence Services

The Department of Residence Services, comprised of the Office of Residential Life and the Office of Facilities Services, works to provide an environment that supports your studies at the Law School through well-maintained facilities, community-enhancing activities and policies and procedures that are comprehensive, easily understood, and equitable.

Thanks! Maybe there was somewhere where you had to check that you were interested in on-campus housing so they were just emailing those people? Doesn't look like anyone's at a disadvantage not receiving it either way.

There was a place on NeedAccess that asked whether or not your were planning to live on-campus... I selected "off-campus." I guess that explains it?

Nope, I checked off-campus as well. I think maybe it was just random, or a technical error.

Posting here in addition to the acceptance/denial/waitlist thread in hopes that a current student might be more likely to browse this more manageable thread!
Does anyone have an idea how many people get invited to interview for RTK scholarships? Do you know if numbers play a role at that point or if it's mostly based on your essays/interview?

Btw thanks to those who replied to my housing question last week!

Between 6th and 4th. --LinkRemoved--

Interestingly, according to that graph Chicago was ranked higher than Stanford in 1998.

ETA: to actually answer your question, NYU might be thought of as 'slipping' because it went from 4th to 5th in 2009 and 5th to 6th in 2011, but I doubt that's any indication of the future. Then again...

trust me dude, rankings don't matter once you get to a top school. every hiring partner or associate i've spoken with did not even know which school was ranked what. they just know HYS and then they pretty much know nyu is a top school. plus, how are you going to know where nyu will be ranked from past data? technical analysis? lol

Hey, my financial aid application has been under review since 2/12. Talk me off of the ledge here and/or get my hopes up, people.

Numbers are 3.5x/179.

Did you apply for a named scholarship? I think the consensus is that if you did, no news is good news (since they don't give you your package until they make a decision on your scholarship application, their financial aid package is also a rejection from the named scholly).

I sent in my docs on a Monday night. I heard back that Thursday...and got $0. So maybe their taking longer is a good thing and means they're actually considering how much $ to give you :)

Good morning! This may be a silly question, but do I need to send a copy of my and my parents' W2s and 1040s or am I done after submitting FAFSA and Need Access? Also, does anyone know, if I do need to submit hard copies, is that limited to W2s and 1040s or do I also need to submit the self-employment tax forms, charitable contributions, etc.? Thanks in advance!

I think they do need tax returns (with all addenda, W-2s, etc.), but not right now, I think they only need it later so confirm your aid package before disbursing it. For now, you just need FAFSA and Need Access for your application to be considered complete. At least, I haven't submitted any tax returns yet and my application is complete and under review.

OK. Sounds good. I'll probably just send it anyway, so I can check it off my list now that I know it's necessary. Thanks!
