Re: NYU Law Class of 2016
Finaid emails may not have come out today because they were giving us presentations on all the massive debt we will have at the ASW. I applied for RTK, and I have been under final stages of review since 2/4 but no update today...

Checking in here. Also in final stages, but I was just admitted last week so that's to be expected I suppose.

Just got the fin aid email! $15,000 per year, $37,500 total. I guess this means no IILJ for me but I'm so happy for the money!

Just got my fin aid email as well. Absolutely nothing. If I can't negotiate up with other acceptances (crossing my fingers) may have to defer and reapply or...do something else. NYU at sticker terrifies me.

For everyone receiving $0 -- is it the case that you have little to no financial need? I'm really struggling to understand why certain people are getting money and others aren't, particularly when some people are getting great scholarships and others are getting $0, all with similar numbers.

Re: NYU Law Class of 2016
I definitely don't have any financial need (lol at that. I do, but my parents don't) so I don't think that's the sole differentiating factor. I did wonder if maybe a CLS acceptance could impact the package though? I know the schools are known to communicate on these things frequently, so it's possible that nyu looks at the Columbia admits as being in a stronger position than those without?02889 wrote:For everyone receiving $0 -- is it the case that you have little to no financial need? Got my offer today as well. 62,500 total or 75,000 if PI.
I suppose this offer also means I'm out of the running for IILJ?

Re: NYU Law Class of 2016
I work at a V50 law firm and my income before taxes last year was far upwards of 65k. That said, it's not typical, I'm not on track to earn at the same rate this year, and my parents have dire financial need. I applied very, very late in the cycle (as in, I applied the day before the application was due). I'm also a hardcore splitter (178/3.4) so I'm sure that had something to do with it. NYU is the best school I've gotten into so far.02889 wrote:For everyone receiving $0 -- is it the case that you have little to no financial need? Does anyone know how NYU views reapplicants who are quite visibly reapplying just to get money? I'm not going to get a recommendation from anyone at my firm that says anything more substantive than what's already been said, and my application isn't really going to change much between now and September.

Re: NYU Law Class of 2016
As far as I know it hasn't been tracked, but I don't think there's been a correlation at NYU between early acceptances and more money. Actually, UVA seems to be the only school that really threw money around early then "ran out."gfd973 wrote:I work at a V50 law firm and my income before taxes last year was far upwards of 65k. I see that the award letter says "satisfactory academic progress" but doesn't stipulate a GPA requirement. Does anyone know precisely what that means? Is it just good academic standing in general (aka no F's) or is it more specific than that?

Good question. It says that satisfactory academic progress will be described in an attached schedule, but I don't see it in the PDF. Maybe it will come in the mail?ph5354a wrote:I see that the award letter says "satisfactory academic progress" but doesn't stipulate a GPA requirement. Does anyone know precisely what that means? Yeah I don't see it in the PDF either. Before officially accepting ill call and ask just to do my due diligence, but since there doesn't seem to be a GPA stip (I'm assuming they would have to say that in the offer letter) I'm not too concerned. Ill report back when I find out.voytek wrote:Good question. It says that satisfactory academic progress will be described in an attached schedule, but I don't see it in the PDF. Actually I found this. Looks like its required for everyone anyways. Seems pretty basic/doable.

Anyone accepted in first batch that has not received any sort of financial aid email/have access to any financial aid website? I applied to a named scholarship (RTK) but haven't heard anything regarding financial aid either, and apparently those aren't related.

It means you haven't failed a class. There are very rarely GPA requirements on NYU scholarships.voytek wrote:Good question.
