Haha, I saw that. I really enjoyed this:

Not being a native speaker, I had not heard the word 'gunner' until I visited law schools. Now I really want to know what it means. I really hope people aren't walking around with AK-47s.

Submitted my financial aid questionnaire a week ago and still nothing. The financial aid office told me they will give me a week to deposit after I get my financial aid info, which means I'll probably be on vacation when I have to send in the money. Oop.

did anyone have any issue after setting up their email account? when i log into cubmail, its giving me an error page that reads:

"Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in /etc/httpd/htdocs/horde/lib/Horde/IMAP/Tree.php on line 378

Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in /etc/httpd/htdocs/horde/lib/Horde/IMAP/Tree.php on line 381

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /etc/httpd/htdocs/horde/lib/Horde/IMAP/Tree.php:378) in /etc/httpd/htdocs/horde/imp/redirect.php on line 59"

and then when i refresh the page, it takes me to Columbia mail but along the top it says "unable to retrieve quota"

I also set it up as a new account on my iPhone and it seems to recognize it because i have access to something called "bboard" where people are posting about selling furniture etc but when i click on the inbox it pops up saying "cant get mail- the mail servicer 'mail.columbia.edu' is not responding"

prob should contact columbia directly but anyone have any insight/experiencing anything similar?

I think cub mail is being phased out so that may be the issue. Try lionmail.columbia.edu and see if that works. It's a gmail interface though so make sure you're not already logged into a gmail account in the same browser.

Are you using your regular password or device password? For your phone/iPad you have to get a device password, which you can do pretty easily with your UNI on the CUIT website I think. It's just a randomly generated password.

Yea there are problems with any University's use of Google Apps.

You cannot delegate a Google account controlled by the University to your general gmail account. This mean you have to log onto this e-mail separately to check its mail and you can't send e-mails from that address through your general gmail account. E-mail forwarding is a solution, but you'll have e-mail redundancy and at some point you'll still have to look at both accounts if only to go back and delete thousands of e-mail doubles. Since the account is University controlled, you'll have to go through this generated password every time you wish to add a mobile device.

Same goes for calendar synchronization. If you schedule things on your uni Google account calendar, they will not show up on your general gmail calendar. You can share the calendar with your primary gmail account, but you'll still have to remember to flip through the multiple calendars you have, which operate kind of like an overlay. A less elegant solution is to simply remember to invite your primary gmail account to every event you make. This removes the problem of not being able to see it without actively accessing it. Either way, this convoluted my calendar and I remember going home a few times with my problem set still in my backpack only to realize I didn't hand it in because my calendar was open to the wrong schedule. Having one calendar eliminates this stress.

These among other problems caused me to just about ditch the uni entirely. (The biggest factor was I was on cubmail, Lionmail was not introduced until the year of my graduation)

My use of my uni, historically, has been restricted to club and fraternity listservs. Things I didn't really care about missing, and things I didn't really want in my inbox all the time. But academic listservs and athletic stuff, I had them send to my general gmail instead of my uni.

NYU's Google Apps also operates the same way (this really steams me). They will not allow delegation of the account to my master gmail account. I simply won't use their netID because of this. I'll sign up for everything important I need on the gmail account I use now and use my own calendar.

Two calendars and two unique addresses without delegation? NO THANKS

Wow, that's absurd. We got spoiled at UChicago - I opened my Cmail account once and never looked at it again.

I think you have the option to automatically delete the email from the Cubmail account once you forward it onto your gmail, at least I saw that option pop up, which would remove the email redundancy issue. I think I selected the option to leave it in the cubmail server but mark it as read. I can test to see if that worked. I've been getting emails forwarded to my normal gmail fine, and it's popping up in my phone as expected.

Does approved mean you've gotten your assignment, or you're just close to your assignment, or just that they've nonchalantly glanced at your application?

I think the law school has to approve your app before UAH looks at it. I think it's to verify that you've paid your deposit or something.

FAQ about approval process (it doesn't specify the exact purpose of the approval)

Yes, I think this is correct. If you go here and click on email forwarding, you can set it to basically never put email in your Lionmail account and send it always to your personal. Doesn't solve the calendar issue, but does get around the redundancy problem.

I personally won't be doing this - I like to keep separate accounts. I'm coming from a school with Exchange so switching to Netscape Email from 1995 would be an improvement. I use Mailplane on my desktop to keep both accounts open simultaneously and Mailbox on my phone somehow works with Lionmail as well (so happy to never use the build-in iOS Mail app again!).

is there a expected timeline for housing? do they send out in batches like if you got drawn towards beginning of lottery youll receive your assignment quicker, so the later you hear the worst your chances of getting what you want? or do they do everyone who submitted by the deadline, get it all settled and then notify everyone?

i got the approved email earlier as well, wondering if everyone who submitted by may 1 will be approved within the next day or so or if it means anything about eventual housing assignments. there's all my wild speculation and ramblings because I wanna know where i'll be living so bad haha
