FYI: I called and asked and they said they do accept them via email, but made sure I knew that it wasn't the most secure way. I also feel I should mention that I have emailed financial aid three times since Sunday with my/parents forms as I had them ready and a couple questions and I haven't received any response or acknowledgement of receipt. With the March 1 deadline looming, I find this pretty annoying.

My mom tried to email her tax forms yesterday, and I received an email from the financial aid office today saying they couldn't access the files she sent and asking her to try again. I would think maybe no news is good news? I never received confirmation when my dad faxed his forms earlier in the week.

Edit: Oh, I just saw you had questions, too. I can at least confirm that they are in the office and contacting students today.

Thanks. Yeah, my first email was asking about the FAQ since I hadn't received it yet (I since have). I'm also just looking for a response because my dad's taxes were too long to send all at once (their server rejected it), so I sent what I could. I'm really just hoping for a response confirming that my application is complete.

Give them a call!

It'll put you through an automated message, but as soon as that starts just hit 0 and hit 0 again if it brings you to a different menu - that'll put you through to an actual Financial Aid office person. I did it last week and got full confirmation that they had all my financial aid info.

Hello all, checking in! :)

I am pretty sure I will be at Columbia this fall! Totally looking forward to heading to NY from the west coast!

Haha excellent!

Question for all of you about next week's Admitted Students' Program - is there any sort of recommended dress code? Is business casual the consensus (tucked in shirt but no tie/coat/etc.?)?

This has probably already been said on the thread, but the March 1 is a soft deadline. For example, if you put something in the mail and it doesn't arrive until Monday, that's fine.

I was just going to dress normally. I figured we'd probably want to just be casual because we'll be walking around a lot.

Fair, thanks! :) The more I think about it, the less it seems to matter.

I'll see some of you all next week, then.

Haha congrats! There's a pretty great schedule for both days, the first in particular should be a lot of fun. Can't go wrong with your choices!

Well since I planned the whole thing around NYU I certainly want to check it out properly. I'll go to the next Columbia ASW and check it out properly then. In the meantime I can't be in NYC and not at least pop by to check the place out, right?!

Nope, I've got Ted Shaw at the same time. I wonder how big these classes are going to be. Did they attach an assigned reading for your class? We're doing Brown v. Board

That's awesome! I got Penobscot Area Housing Development Corp. v. City of Brewer, the packet has the heading "What Is a 'Family'?"

I don't really know anything about this one, so it should be pretty interesting. Don't really know what to expect though, do you think they'll mock-cold call or just try to facilitate some discussion?

Hahaha homework. Yeah, I hadn't thought of that. It's a pretty brief document that we got though, I'm just gonna read through it on the plane briefly and be done with it, it's nothing to sweat.

So, is anyone planning on taking a pet? I am trying to figure out the logistics behind this since I am on the west coast.

I think I've answered this question of yours a couple times, but Columbia's answer is that the first batch of financial aid offers will come out in late March at the soonest. March 1 was just one deadline, they seemed to indicate they wouldn't actually start processing them until a couple days later (makes sense - it's the weekend right now).

Anybody willing to split a room this Tuesday/Wednesday for ASW? I found a few doubles that are about $100/night.

Please PM if interested--thanks!

I got Hemphill. Wonder what the class is going to be like.

Also, any thoughts from/about girls on dress code? I really don't want to be stuck in a skirt and flats/heels in the rain/snow all day and night, but I also don't want to look out of place. Nice sweater, nice jeans, casual boots too casual? Or Hunter boots if it turns out to be pouring rain?

Not sure at Columbia, but at Georgetown's ASW, you would have stuck out by wearing something more formal than that. It was pretty casual.
