Dandelion - a parade where 1Ls....well, you'll just have to wait for it.

Yeah...desertlaw's statement still stands. Dandelion is an experience...

In a similar vein, I want to apply for a 2Br apartment in Ivy Gardens ($975 per month version) and wanted to see if anyone would want to take the other bedroom in the apt (I'm early-to-mid 20s). PM me if interested!

PSA if you're looking for housing:

-Copeley Hill and University Gardens are open to single students too. From what I understand, they just changed the policy this year. The graduate housing office told me they were first come first served, and that they would let people know in June.

-EDIT: Follow up to that. Any current students know when Ivy usually runs out of 1-bedrooms? If I wait until June for Copeley and don't get it, am I screwed?

Admittedly Irritating PSA (sorry y'all):

does anyone know why I can't seem to join the damned UVA c/o 2016 Facebook page? I've clicked "join group" and waited ~2 weeks to be "accepted" TWO DIFFERENT TIMES without luck. I feel so isolated and alone.

For the love of God and all that is holy, do not live in Ivy. Look into the new building on Arlington. Ivy has a good location for walking to school, but it's inconvenient for everything else, and more importantly:
1. The internet sucks. And I don't mean it sucks like Comcast. I never thought I would say this, but I would give anything to have a shitty mainstream ISP like Comcast at this point instead of the incompetent fly-by-night company that Ivy has contracted with to supply us with internet and cable. And no, there are no other options for access. They claim they can't get a major company to take the contract - I call bullshit. The internet has been broken ever since they switched to this company a year ago. That's right, the internet has gone out (not just slow - completely out) at random times anywhere from a few minutes to a few days at a time FOR THE LAST YEAR. Have fun with that when you need internet access to study or research. The whole complex will lose access and when you call tech support they try to troubleshoot your equipment (as if my router made the whole complex's internet die). There are times I thought I was on candid camera. It's been so bad that it made the law weekly's April Fools edition: http://www.lawweekly.org/?module=displa ... ormat=html

2. Prepare to bleed quarters all year if you use the laundry on the property. That's right, I said quarters. No change machine on the premises and no card system like every other apartment building in the first world. This would be fine if the dryers actually dried your clothes, but they break so frequently it's a crap shoot whether your clothes will be dried or not. You can, of course, spend your time calling the contractor (kickbacks again?) who owns the machines, but are you really going to ask for a refund for $1.50 each time?

3. Your move-in/move-out dates will be as inconvenient as possible. If they offer you an apartment with the lease starting in May, you say "thank you sir, I will indeed pay your increasingly overpriced rent all summer when I don't even want to move in until August," or you don't get the place. As for moving out, one would think that you would be able to extend your lease until after the bar exam, when, ya know, it's convenient to move out, and it's still a couple weeks until the 1Ls want to move in. No such luck. Because all the apartments flip over the summer and they only schedule their people to go through so many apartments per day, they don't let you extend your lease for a few weeks, which would be convenient for you and for the person moving in. I'm not sure why an apartment complex that sits mostly empty for the summer would be so freaked out by having to working overtime for a few weeks in August, but hey, this is what a monopoly in housing close to the law and business schools gets you. I hope the new building on Arlington puts them out of business.

I should say, to be fair to the employees in the office here, they seem very nice, and when I put in a service request for something it usually gets done quickly. But management is incompetent and/or corrupt, so please don't reward them.

Yeah I mean that stuff sounds really annoying obviously, but to those TLSers living there next year I wouldn't like stress out over it. I just know the demographic of the average TLSer and I feel like the above post will make them unnecessarily stress out.

Every apartment I have ever lived in has had problems, which I'm sure is a trait common among a lot if not all of us. If you already signed there or about to I'm sure it will be on par with your average "student apt" and ok.

True, it's not the end of the world for people who have already committed. And they can always move out after a year. I just wish someone had told me the above before I picked a place to live, so I thought I should share it. You're right that every place has problems, but I've lived in quite a few places and none have been like this. It's become worse over the last year, so maybe with the new competition they'll get their act together.

I would be careful, when I called it was like pulling teeth to find out if 1 bedrooms with and without a den were still available and how long the process took but they are definitely booking up a lot faster than the impression I got on these forums. She made it sound like they would be filled soon and this was almost a month ago. Definitely call the leasing office and see if they can give you an idea of what they have left

Yeah, I got that whole song and dance too. I feel like an apartment leasing office is always going to act like they're running out, just to pressure people into signing. I've seen a few comments here and there that Ivy doesn't fill up until at least mid-summer, but I just wanted to double check and see if that was still the case.

And again, does anybody know anything about the Copeley/University Gardens waiting list?
(I realize these questions would probably be better suited for the "UVA students taking questions" forum, so I'll post there too).

Another "looking for housing" post, but with a twist! I have a cat, so a lot of the normal housing options are closed to me. Also, I won't be in the US till August, so no chance to view a place before committing, which makes me hesitant to go with anything other than an established complex. Anyone familiar with C'ville have suggestions?

I'm pretty sure that the Pavilion allowed pets with a deposit.

If anyone is interested, the computer reccomendations for the C/O 2016 are posted http://www.uvastudentcomputers.com/shop ... E7BD357124

I, however, will not be getting any of those listed. I find it hard to believe you need a $1300-$1600 laptop to succeed in law school.

In the past, the PC options were not terribly price efficient, but the Macs were decently priced considering the 3 years of Applecare and them fixing/replacing stuff for free.

I haven't compared the specs of those bundles, though

Lol. They come with pre-installed wireless cards!

Dell/Apple must be paying UVA quite a bit to shill for them.

LOL at "computers ordered after July 22 won't be delivered by start of classes" really? Because I think I could just go to best buy rather than wait a month.

Does anybody know where I could find the number/website to the office of the Arlington apartments right across the street from the new Pavilion?

Thanks
