If you have your ID card, you get 999 dollars in credit at the bookstore. I rented most of mine used (probably dumb, but the low initial cost is what I was going for) and it came out to just under 600.danitt wrote:LOL at buying books for classes with no money. *waits patiently for disbursement*

Also, it's worth taking a few minutes to actually look through the used books. I got an unmarked Torts casebook used, and a very lightly marked CivPro one.

So I just bought all of my books used through Amazon and paid about $800. A very crude comparison to buying used from the bookstore saved me anywhere from $500 - $700 dollars. Would recommend.

I passed on the "recommended" Crim Law supplement, and didn't get the LRW books yet, but everything else I did.danitt wrote:Follow up. Are you guys just buying everything listed for your professors' classes?

Hmmmm...NoodleyOne wrote:Found the post with the professors for each class:

A Collins Verkerke Low Armacost Schauer Harrison
B Mitchell Cohen Jeffries Armacost Schwartzman Nicoletti
C Woolhandler Johnston Bonnie Abraham Bowers Schragger
D Mitchell Hynes Forde-Mazrui Kendrick Schauer Mahoney
E Heytens Setear Jeffries White Prakash Kendrick
F Collins Johnson Bonnie Sprigman Nachbar Kendrick
G Nelson Kordana Low White Bowers Mahoney
H Nelson Johnston Coughlin Barzun Schwartzman Lowe
I Garrett Choi Coughlin Sprigman Goluboff Nicoletti
J Rutherglen Choi Harmon Kendrick Prakash Lowe
K Sinclair Hellman Forde-Mazrui Abraham Goluboff Harrison
L Heytens Hellman Harmon Duffy Nachbar Schragger
From a 3L perspective (to me) Sections B and H have a pretty great line up. There are a lot of professors that I haven't taken classes with or haven't heard any positives or negatives on to comment more broadly though...

Also I think Noodley said we can get a $999. credit (why not make it $1K?) at the law school bookstore. If you wanna head up there tomorrow and check things out lemme know.

Thank you. I didn't realize it was a university wide list at first and the law school books started at the bottom.danitt wrote:--LinkRemoved--Br3v wrote:I am so stupid. Where is evveryone looking to see what books you need?

Thanks TJ
So when does everyone plan on trying to make a study schedule? Try to see how things look during the first few days/weeks? I'm trying to figure out something now that we have schedules.

How did you do that? I searched on Amazon, but I can't get the latest version.shibby wrote:So I just bought all of my books used through Amazon and paid about $800. A very crude comparison to buying used from the bookstore saved me anywhere from $500 - $700 dollars. Would recommend.

After that post I actually searched Amazon and but for two of the supplements they were all there. Grand total was $750 or something like that.rose-vie wrote:How did you do that? Seriously! What section are you in? I really can't find many of my books....especially the latest version of the casebooks....danitt wrote:After that post I actually searched Amazon and but for two of the supplements they were all there. Re: UVA Class of 2016
I couldn't find mine on Amazon either and had to go the bookstore route. I ended up renting all of my books except for one since we're allowed to write/highlight in rentals. (Total shock to me.) For everything, it ended up being just a bit over $500. Might be a route to consider if you're not interested in keeping them.

As an ethnic minority, I have been met with some odd and disapproving stares. I figured I would get some of that in VA but its turning out to be a lot. Anyone else running into this as well?

Damn dude... that sucks. I have noticed the rather... monochromatic quality of the town. My girlfriend (who is an ethnic minority) is uncomfortable at times.shadowofjazz wrote:As an ethnic minority, I have been met with some odd and disapproving stares. Damn. This might be why a random black lady smiled at me in HT yesterday, asked me if I was new in town then have me a whole list of recommendations about where to go. She said I needed a community here. I thought she meant like a religious community.NoodleyOne wrote:Damn dude... that sucks. I have noticed the rather... monochromatic quality of the town. ETA: People that I've met on grounds or in the law school have been super friendly and nice though.
