If anyone is interested, I am looking for a roommate to live out in the Arlington (VA) area.

Right now, there is one apartment complex I am particularly interested in (http://www.equityapartments.com/Virgini ... ments.aspx) that is right on top of a Metro stop 6 minutes (just 2 stops) away from GW.

Along with our own bedrooms, we would also have a washer/dryer in unit, balcony, and much more for less than $1500/person.

I have lived in DC the last 6 years and know the area well so I would be happy to answer any questions you have about the area, commute, etc.

Please PM me if interested in potentially living together. Please note that I have a dog who is approximately 60 lbs. but very friendly. Obviously, I will cover all pet fees.

I hope this isn't out of place, but it seems like there's been a lot of housing posts on this thread. My husband and I are moving to NYC in the fall for law school and are looking to rent out our apartment. Before posting to the wider world, I wanted to see if any TLS-ers might be interested.

The apartment is a one-bedroom in VA, and is about a 5-10 minute walk from either the Rosslyn or Courthouse metro stops (which are about a 5-10 min ride from Foggy Bottom). We'd love to rent it out furnished for either the school year or the whole year, for anyone whose moving from out-of-town without a lot of stuff, and it would be $2000/month.

The apartment itself is really nice - stainless steel appliances, marble countertops, hardwood floors, all the furniture is fairly new (purchased over the last few years), and the building itself has a gym. If anyone is interested, PM me and I can send pics or tell you more about the area.

does anyone know the health insurance policy? if we have our own health insurance, can we use that or do we have to pay for school health insurance?

If you want GW's health insurance, you have to buy it. Last year it cost $1500. But they don't automatically give it to you. This is opposite of my undergrad where you had to opt out of it. But they apparently don't do that anymore because people complained and a lot of people had their own insurance and had better plans through being on their parent's insurance.

So if you already have health insurance I would save the money and just keep what you have.

Where is a good place in town to live if you're looking to keep costs down?

Anyone? I'm freakin out here. I have 21 days to get this done.

Any place in DC is going to be pretty expensive. If you want to stay closer to school, your best bet is the Logan Circle area. Neighborhoods without a metro (such as Adams Morgan) tend to be cheaper. NE has some more affordable places, but I would be careful there because some parts can still be somewhat dangerous. I had a friend who lived by the New York Ave. metro stop and thought it was safe.

Northern Virginia might be your best bet. It's not too inconvenient because Foggy Bottom is the first stop in DC for the blue/orange lines.

I've cruised craigslist, apartments.com, and many others without a ton of luck. My wife and I are flying in on Saturday (8/4) and don't yet have a place to live!!!

We're alright with a studio, and ideally could keep rent under $1500/month with utilities. Not exactly the easiest to find within any proximity to GW's campus.

Any thoughts?

In case you arrive with nowhere to live, call some of the hotels in the area and see if you can negotiate a 1-month stay. My friend moved to DC last November and was able to rent a hotel room in Foggy Bottom for 1500/month.

I remember looking at a 1 bedroom in Adams Morgan for 1600, so I don't think it will be too hard to find something in your price range.

I just moved into a brand new building in the NoMa area which is near the New York Ave stop. I love it - its one block from the metro, across from a Harris Teeter, and pretty safe. I felt like I got more for my buck by living a little further away (new building, amenities - gym, rooftop pool, beautiful lobby and work spaces, etc) - its about as 20 minute commute to school via pub trans. Definitely worth checking out - Archstone First + M is my building - feel free to message for more details. Good Luck!

We ended up finding a fantastic place in Dupont for $1500/month. Its small, but in a fantastic area and a quick bike ride to campus!
