From the brief looking around I did, it didn't look like splitting with a roommate necessarily saves you over living alone in a studio, but if you were planning on getting a really big studio/convertible or a 1 bedroom, then it could definitely be worth moving up to a 2 bedroom with a roommate.

Define "walking distance." There are a ton of mid and high rise buildings up in the gold coast that are no more than a mile total from school.

That's definitely walking distance for me, though at the far end of it.

Any recommendations? I toured 1133 N. Dearborn and was told that PPM Apartments has several other high-rises in the area with similar amenities, price, etc. The prices seemed pretty similar to Streeterville, but included heat and the floor plans were larger (looking for a 1 BR). I will probably be ending up either at McClurg (jumped on the waitlist) or somewhere north within a short walk to either the red line or the lake shore buses. I am unlikely to return to Chicago prior to August to do an in-depth seach, however. Thanks!

They had a form they handed out during the housing tour. I think you can call them and get on their waitlist but you have to pay a deposit I think

One of the ASW guys (I dunno his TLS name) was telling me that the studentspace peeps said something about you can pay the deposit for the waitlist and then you don't have to pay the move-in fee or something like that? And then you will be happier because the waitlist fee is less than the move-in fee?

This is all kind of fuzzy to me so if anyone knows more than I do and I'm posting bad info you can tell me shutyomouth.

I still recommend calling though, that way they know you're an NU incoming student (there isn't anywhere to put that on the application) and they give you like $100 off your first month.

Random culturally-related question related to NU's campus... watching the Chicago Code episode 1 to get me geared up for next fall and thought there might be a location shot at/or around NU...

for those of you who have access to netflix, I am talking about Season 1 Episode 1 at 20:18. It says Municipal Building but the pan shot is in streeterville, within a stone's throw of Hancock...

Does anyone recognize this shot/scene?
