Checking in as well, beginning my apartment hunt for next year. Was told today that they haven't firmed up plans on a Laywer's Club replacement yet.

Welcome to the club. Have you found any good prospects? Some of the more popular complexes seem to be: Harbor House, Woodbury Gardens, and Lake Village. A little on the expensive side, however.MyManKanye wrote:Checking in as well, beginning my apartment hunt for next year. Harbor House seemed the nicest out of those three. Not sure I'm ok with being that far off campus though. I'm used to walking in my UG and coming from a place with a similar winter to Michigan I don't trust the buses and roads when I'm on a tight schedule.TheOcho wrote:Welcome to the club. The on campus towers (Zaragon, 411, etc. are very nice buy craaaaazy expensive). I found the 4 apartment buildings that U of M is leasing for law students to replace the LC, and right now am considering one of those. Big downside to those is none of them seem to have private laundry, which is one of my neuroses.

That's awesome erv! I can't wait myself I'm coming straight from undergrad though so I won't be there until mid-May or so. Any suggestions on where to live?erv2107 wrote:BuckinghamB wrote:Checking in! Just got into ASW today, hopefully this isn't a glitch or anything haha. I live in HH. Taking the 7 bus and switching to the 6 gets you door to door in about 20 minutes, but it only runs every half hour. In the evening, I walked .4 miles to grab the 7 direct as its longer to transfer because the 6 gets late.MyManKanye wrote:Harbor House seemed the nicest out of those three. Now, I drive around the block and take the 36 which runs every 9 minutes straight to the LS. You can walk to it (.4 mile) through Lake Village as well. It'd be closer if you were on that end of the complex. My roommate did it last year with no car although it could be an inconvenience at times.
After the 36 stops running, you can get a free cab ride to the lot where it picks up.

I'm from Texas and went to undergrad in NYC (so much for anonymity) so I'm actually not the best person to give advice on Ann Arbor housing, but from my many, many visits this is what I've learned:
The suggestions mentioned above are all good apartment complexes short bus rides from school. The other option is to get an apartment in a house so you can walk to campus. Some of these are really nice, and some are awful so you have to be careful about it. My fiancé is currently a U of M grad student living in an apartment in a house really near the law school, and I'll be moving in with him. We'll probably move to Woodbury after the summer term.

RE Houses. Make sure you hace AC. It gets deceptively hot/humid at times (even during our semesters) and you won't be able to sublet without it.erv2107 wrote:That's awesome erv! Checking in! Not 100% sure where I will matriculate, but Michigan is certainly one of the favorites. Hopefully I'll get to visit for ASW.

Does anyone know if Michigan provides stipends for people to visit on preview weekends? I'm in a foreign country, and even $300 would go a long way in easing the $1000+ price tag.

Pretty sure they don't...or at least not in normal circumstances.Real Madrid wrote:Does anyone know if Michigan provides stipends for people to visit on preview weekends? I'm in a foreign country, and even $300 would go a long way in easing the $1000+ price tag.

Re: Michigan Law Class of 2015
Does anyone know if its possible to switch out of summer start? I was hoping to be ready to go by then, but I'm not sure I will be able to finish everything up by then/move my family, etc. I saw in the blog that its very difficult to switch from fall to summer, but it didn't say much about the reverse....

It's possible if you have a decent reason. This came up last year. Call the Admissions office. The early in the process the better.MumofCad wrote:Does anyone know if its possible to switch out of summer start?
