People who are flying in - what airport are you landing at? Will there be cabs (never hailed a cab in m'life)/shuttle/something to get us to A2?
Oh, and Elliot? The first weekend is better because that's the one I'm going to.

I agree with this statement, because I will also be at the first!Killingly wrote:People who are flying in - what airport are you landing at? Will there be cabs (never hailed a cab in m'life)/shuttle/something to get us to A2?

I'm planning on flying into DTW. The Preview Weekend page has a link to a bulletin board for ride sharing, although it doesn't look like anyone's posted yet. I think I'll wait until it gets closer before figuring out transportation, but I'd be up for sharing a cab.

If sharing doesn't work out: http://www.michiganflyer.com/ is reliable.Killingly wrote:People who are flying in - what airport are you landing at? Will there be cabs (never hailed a cab in m'life)/shuttle/something to get us to A2?

Yup, still thinking about the 12 hour drive from Minneapolis. If anyone is in the twin cities, you're welcome to carpool

Woo. I shall be flying from NYC->Detroit around noon the day before the second ASW begins. I was going to take a train to AA but I think I may rent a car to check out apts. I paid for the Saturday night hotel... Are most people staying Saturday night too or heading home before that?

Nope. Nada. Could be a call from a current student. A few schools have students call and see if you have any questions...ScrabbleChamp wrote:Hmm... just missed a call from UMich... anybody else get a call recently (already admitted, received Dean's Scholarship)?

I'm attending the 2nd ASW. I'll be flying into Detroit at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27. I'm not sure how I'm getting to A2 yet, and I'm having to pinch pennies these days, so I'm trying to figure out the cheapest options. Also, does anyone want to split a hotel room on Tuesday and Wednesday night?

Gah. I don't know about renting a car. The rates are pretty crap if you are under 25... I'm 24 and a half... Grrrrrrr.

This might be a long shot, but check with your undergrad (or maybe even with U of M) about a corporate discount code. Even if you've graduated at my undergrad you can use their corporate code with Enterprise and they'll waive all the additional fees from being under 25. I did it when I was only 20 last year and it was pretty cheap.sandwiches5000 wrote:Gah. I don't know about renting a car. The rates are pretty crap if you are under 25... I'm 24 and a half... Hertz offers a similar deal (to anyone) on their website: https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/specialo ... waived.jsp46nyc wrote:This might be a long shot, but check with your undergrad (or maybe even with U of M) about a corporate discount code. Just an FYI, the cost of gas and tolls is more than flying. You can sometimes get deals for $160 round trip out of BWI. The cheapest I've gotten is $100. It costs almost $30 in tolls alone each way.hooma wrote:Checking in! Just accepted this morning and couldn't be happier Anyone from DC want to carpool to the second ASW? For that weekend BWI is $216 (on priceline) which isn't too much more, but I was also planning on bringing my SO so we would need to buy 2 tickets.blowhard wrote:Just an FYI, the cost of gas and tolls is more than flying. Speaking of bringing an SO, is ASW at Mich guest friendly? It doesn't look like they ask on the registration if you're bringing a guest which seems strange since they provide meals.

People brought SOs with them. I'd make sure you don't miss out on the socializing. Also, you share a room so I think everyone with an SO had to pay to rent their own room...hooma wrote:For that weekend BWI is $216 (on priceline) which isn't too much more, but I was also planning on bringing my SO so we would need to buy 2 tickets.blowhard wrote:Just an FYI, the cost of gas and tolls is more than flying.
