Now that I'm a 1L I'm getting fat as hell. The hectic schedule means not time to work out, late night meals, and lots of chinese and pizza.

Anybody else feeling the same way?

Any tips on loosing this $hit?

just 20-30 minutes a day to exercise does wonders and pays dividends in the form of extra energy.

Walk everywhere. I've lost weight since school from abandoning public transportation. Its also good for your sanity... Studying all the time isn't helpful if you don't take time off for it to gel.

Exercise = better health = longer life (along with a much happier, positive, and focused life)

Studying = better grades = better job = more money, however a better job means more hours/work (95% of the time) = more stress = worse health = shorter life

Longer life > shorter life

therefore

Exercise > studying

I'm clearly not going to do well next year am I? Ah well, life is full of sacrifices.

I find that most people how say this are lying to themselves. Often those who claim there is "no time" seem to find all the time in the world to manage their fantasy team and let their brain decompress via at least 30 minutes in front of mindless television.

On a more serious note than these "fatass comments", I find that spinning machines (stationary bikes) are really conducive to reading. You can pick up an old one of those for under $200 and it will probably fit in your bedroom. Read and exercise at the same time. For more $$$ (which is nothing against 100k student loans) you can find these cool under-desk bike machines, they aren't serious exercise, but you can use one while comfotably sitting at a desk typing or doing anything else.

That is so true. If you really were motivated, you could find 30 minutes to take the time to exercise. Besides, IMO running is a great way to clear your mind after a long, hectic day. Swapping the pizza and takeout chinese for healthier food will probably give you more energy too. If you don't have time to cook, go to a Whole Foods and get items from their salad bar if you can...much better for you and quick and easy.

working out in the morning, basically right after you wake up, is the best strategy if it seems like you can't find the time during the day. once the day gets going it's common for all sorts of things to keep coming up and pushing exercise back on the priority list. wake up half an hour earlier and just get it out of the way in the morning. the energy you'll get from this, as well as the quick, clean break from the sleep cycle, will more than make up for that 30 mins of sleep.

gl!

step 1 - get a voice recorder.
step 2 - pretend that your friend just called and asked you this question
step 3 - record what you tell your "friend"
step 4 - listen to it and implement it
step 5 - realize that in order to give people very intricate legal advice, you are first going to have to learn how to google "exercise tips."

I've actually lost 10 or so pounds since coming to law school (male so losing the weight is arguably a little bit easier) ... there are no more client dinners or overtime meals ordered into the office ...

I think that applies mostly if you eat a lot of red meat

I find just the opposite ... the hectic schedule means there is simply no time to eat ...
