Running character count? Can you see anything after you submit? Would be very interested to find out.

My contracts exam this morning was miserable. Professor has always used an issue spotter as the large essay question on the past exams, and this year it was instead a weird policy/ hypo hybrid. The hypo part was easy, but I'm sure I did terribly on the policy part.

It's really frustrating too, because I felt like I knew black letter contract law, and we spent virtually no time discussing policy. This came out of nowhere for me and everywhere in the class, and the people who will be rewarded are those that are better at bullshitting. I know you have to expect a curve ball, but it doesn't change the fact that it completely sucks when so much is riding on it.
Which Prof do you have? I'm fairly certain my contracts exam this morning was relatively policy-less, but now you've got me nervous.

Here we do all our exams in MS word, which automatically shows a page count and word count at the bottom of the screen. If I had to go through a whole bunch of work just to figure out my word count I probably wouldn't bother.

Okay, that's a lie. Yes I would.

5000 words on my 3 hour Con Law final, which from what I've heard is 1000-2000 words more than the average answer length for my prof's exams. Since he is a strength-of-analysis type of guy, I'm not sure if typing so much did me any good.

Jesus christ, dude, I took a 3.5 hour exam and typed less than 7000 words on it... that's just insane. Were you actually thinking about what to say first or just kind of streaming words onto a page?

I think some people are confusing word counts on law school exams with scoring points on guitar hero:

I had Finkelstein.

That final was so depressing. I had a 50 page outline that I never opened once. We had some multiple choice questions that were bad like most multiple choice questions are. Then we had a policy question when policy really wasn't much of a focus of our class. I mean we did discuss some policy issues, but the class was focused 95% on black letter contract law.

I have a hard time believing that the exam that we were given was even remotely close to the best way to test us on a semester's worth of material. The question was just bizarrre, and I'm not even sure what I was supposed to write about.

Dude, I spent three hours of Civ Pro exam brain vomiting whatever I could think of onto pages and I still wound up with around 4,500 words. No way could I have written more than that and I wasted practically no time looking at the outline.

8,000 in three hours = insane.
