Hate to bump an old thread, but NCCU's materials make it clear that they prefer applicants who will pursue public interest jobs. It's very likely that the rejected 162/3.4 applicants you see did not tailor their personal statement and were just using it as a backup safety. From the looks of their site, it doesn't look like they're into playing the USNWR rankings game, so that gives them a lot more freedom to cherry pick students that will be a good fit.

Plus they're a HBCU. LSAC data shows that the day program is heavily minority. You may have had better luck with their part-time program which appears to have a lot less URMs (and oddly enough, their part-time medians are actually higher than the full time medians!).

I have been turned down for jobs for which I was overqualified, so perhaps that is what is going on here. The school might figure (a) this person is not actually going to enroll here, or (b) this person will just get really good grades and try to transfer out to a top tier law school after their first year. I have no idea. I am just trying to put forward some other reasons than discrimination, which I think the original poster was way too quick to jump to.

Just so every knows - only 44% of the students at the entire NCCU law school are AA.

In fact, only 50% are minorities (URM or not).

NCCU seems to follow the pattern of all the other HBCU law programs (bar Howard) that allow in at 50%+ of ORMs with offensive LSATs.

It's 50% when full and part time programs are averaged. The full time program is still heavily minority. By the looks of it, this may be the result of selection bias. Check out the medians for the part time program; they're higher than the full time. My guess is that there aren't many white applicants in NC wanting to do public interest at NCCU, but the part time program is filled with white people probably wanting to do IP in the triangle.

They aren't going to accept people that are probably going to go elsewhere.

If you care that much, write an endearing "Why NCCU" email/essay and send it to them.

But if you above both, you would likely go elsewhere.
