How many female professors (or classes from female professors) have you had in law school? Forum

How many? (I think most people are doing this by class, not professor)

15/36 classes from female profs, 11 different female profs (though I'm kind of cheating and counting the moot court advisor as a prof).

One Af-Am prof (male), two NA profs (female), one Asian-Am prof (male), one Hispanic prof (male).

Also I think I had to count about 3 times so lets just call this approximate.

I can barely remember what I took 3L year, but I think 9.

Edit: just realized I can't vote in the poll because it asks for a percentage. Too lazy to look up my classes.

7/20ish (4 female professors - one I've had 2 classes with, one I'm in my third class with now). I may have missed a one-credit thing here or there but those don't really count.

I think adjuncts might confound this, because they tend to be (at GULC at least) experienced practitioners and the legal industry is still very male dominated at the top.

4/7 so far

Edit: I think that also includes one POC and 2 openly gay profs. Definitely don't think this is representative

3 out of 9, for precisely 30%, but 2 of those are for LRW, which (given the perceived status of LRW among students) actually doesn't help, and in fact may make things worse.

Beyond 1L, some is going to be based on self-selection, of course. Without doing the math, my impression at UT was that male professors dominated the more doctrinal courses, while women were more likely to teach the writing, experiential, and other skills classes (advanced research/writing courses; trial or appellate advocacy; clinics; internship/externships for credit).

At my 1L school (where 9 of my 12 profs were women -- though that includes double counting where a course was split across semesters like Civ Pro I and Civ Pro II), the full-time faculty (including the new dean) was almost exactly 50/50, but it's worth noting that includes 10 senior lecturers, all of whom are women; the men on the faculty are all some level of prof.

Id count them however you'd like IMHO
I counted non full profs because lol at keeping track of that

This is a very scientific poll
No it's import to keep track of legal writing vs tenure because that's actually a major concern

I think that's right. I've had 9/24 female but if you subtract moot court and LRW it drops to 6/20. Drop out repeats and it goes to 4/18.

11/33 Overall
6/14 for 1L classes
Of note: I'm focusing in IP, which is dragging my average down (2/8 so far).

I had 11 unique full-time faculty professors. 3 female.

I had 8 other courses. 5/8 were led by females.
Legal writing: female
adjuncts/visiting: 2 male, 2 female.
MBA course: male
law/mba co-op: led by 3 females
externship course: led by female.

You probably do. The male Af-Am prof especially is a gimme. (Didn't realize we'd lost the Asian-Am prof, though it looks like there another one now. Fuck that school is white.)

And yeah, I think we had more men LRW profs than women, actually, but of the women I had, one was moot court, one was clinic, and one was a practical skills class (but SSC justice adjunct, so not really a sign of low academic status or anything).
