Semester Vs Cumulative class rank

Postby Baileyc » Fri Jun 05, 2015 10:31 am

This is probably a dumb question but I'm having trouble wrapping my head around it. My school gives out class rank in the fall and spring. My fall rank was 17. My spring rank was 25. My overall class rank when my spring grades came out was 14. And my GPA went down .1 from fall to spring. How the hell did my overall rank go up?

Ah, yes. The underutilized skill of confused-bragging.

Not what I was trying to do. I don't really give a shit to brag to the Internet world about my grades. Just legitimately confused about how my rank went up when my GPA went down, because I don't understand the curve so I thought rank would be based on overall GPA

The concept of regression to the mean is foreign to you? If so, just look it up (it is pretty intuitive regardless).
