Law Review Note Proposal Topic

Post by Mjjslayer » Mon May 11, 2015 1:53 pm

How do people go about coming up with their note proposal topics for law review applications? The application asks for a topic that it is unique, interesting, and is currently in dispute. Ideas or recommendations for coming up with ideas? Thanks TLS.

One way is to read recent decisions of your state supreme court (Ct. of Appeals in New York) or of the US Supreme Court in order to expose yourself to timely topics. Another way is to ask a law professor for current issues in his/her field.

You can also use westlaw/lexis to find obscure circuit splits.

News articles will often identify an issue or a decision. WSJ and NYTimes are pretty good at this, you just need to run with it.
