Some guys in my school use "rolling backpacks" as the op called them, and several of the girls do. I use a regular backpack and have no problem with it. I rarely carry more than two textbooks (on occasion 3) in my backpack, along with my computer/etc). With smart planning and better use of my locker I could have limited it to 1-2 books carried in any given day. It really comes down to how much you can safely carry without hurting yourself.
