Do you think it would've helped him all that much to study 18 hours a day Aug-Test?
Probably not, no. But if he had studied 12 hours a day it could have been worse. He didn't get any B- and that is probably because all teh studing.
18 hours is excessive and inefficient - his burning out probably played a role in his processing ability which led to his underachieving

I would think Studying for Law School Exams is no different than preparing for the LSAT in terms of the quality and amount of work you need to put in; what matters, I think, is whether you study efficiently + have a good grasp on how to take a law school exam (apply the law to facts, spot the issues and analyze - admittedly, easier said than done).

Yup. The only person I knew who studied anywhere near 18 hours a day was doing it completely wrong, poring through extensive case and class notes instead of taking practice exams and reviewing supplements. Not to mention stressing himself the fuck out and refusing to relax for a minute throughout the fall semester. He did pretty poorly gradewise, but thankfully got something through OCI anyway.

Yep. Luck has a larger role in law school exams than most people want to admit. Luck that you have inherent skill at taking exams, luck that the exam touched on topics you understood deeply, luck that your peers did not score better than you, luck that your life didn't interfere with your ability to absorb what you need to know.....

You make 10% of your own luck, and it's a buyer's market. If you don't have the ability you're pretty fucked but you can't do anything else but study.

Well, you can chill out and know that you're probably not changing tons by not grinding like a madman.

That was earnest. We both know that the people who are doomed are doomed anyway.

How do you guys stay motivated after 1L?

I should probably be studying for exams, but my firm doesn't ask for 2L/3L grades at all. So now I'm logged on to TLS for the first time in a couple years to procrastinate. Feeling guilty, but can't be motivated to study.

Unask the question. Why do you need to stay motivated after 1L, if not to secure employment? You're on the law firm track, and yet you still view law school in non-instrumental terms?

This thread was great in conception and somehow even better in execution.

I have to say, i wish i just took one more year off before lawschool. I am so much more disciplined, organized, and hard working than I was when I started. I slacked off a ton first year. I'm pretty much that, if i got a chance to repeat law school, my outcome might be very different. But sometimes you don't know you're slacking until your slacking hits you in the face.

I skimmed all my readings all semester and just read E&Es and studied/made outlines. We'll see how that works out. Going to start practice exams during Thanksgiving break.
