If you are at school all day, what is your eating habit?

Postby stuffedburrito » Fri Jan 18, 2008 12:06 am

I am concerned about law students' eating habits. If you are at school the entire day (first classes, then maybe office hours, and finally, studying in the library), what do you eat!? Do you buy food or pack your own things. If you do make your own food, what do you make? Just curious.

Good topic. I bet it's really dependent on the law school and the proximity of eateries. My school has some sort of crappy cafe that serves fake starbucks coffee. I try to bring food. Other times I go home and eat. This is something I'm working on this semester.

If you guys cook dinner, what do you usual make? It is difficult to make a healthy, wholesome dinner as a law student (lack of time and money). I'm not a cook myself, so I need to find good time-efficient cooking/meal ideas to survive and stay healthy during law school!

I get my lunches together for the week on Sundays. I eat the same thing every day for lunch, so it is pretty easy to put each piece in little ziplock baggies/tupperware and store the in the refridgerator. I have a turkey sandwhich, tomatoes, carrots, an apple/orange, and a treat (usually almonds or some soy crisps). In the mornings all I have to do is take one of each category and a bottle of water. Breakfast is always oatmeal that I put in the microwave before I get in the shower and then eat when I get out. I study at home, so I just eat dinner here. If you can make your own lunches to save money, I would really suggest it. During finals, I study with a friend at a cafe. We usually eat out a lot during the reading period since we study so much. Save your money for the end of the semester.

It's no different than people who work long days. I commute in to D.C. from VA. have tupperware for breakfast and lunch that I prepare the night before, pretty healthy stuff actually. I bring some fruit or nuts or energy bars to snack on in between, an hold me over until I can get dinner, but nobody says you can't pack dinner either. I often make something in a crock pot or make large portions of a recipe, then put it in tupperware for the week.

I can say this- In high stress, long day situations, eating healthy puts you ahead of the pizza and coffee freaks. WHen it's three o clock and everybody is dosing off because of the gigantic sub sandwiwh they got from the deli across the street, I am suckin down fruits and veggies ready to kick ass and take names!!!

This post is kind of ridiculous to me- your all 22 + years old. Heading into a profession bent on research. Is it really that hard to figure out what to eat that is healthy, how to pack it????

Try using multigrain pasta. It tastes the same as regular pasta and it should be a lot better for you. I'm trying to learn how to cook over break, and it's amazing how cheap making a shitload of pasta is compared to eating out, even if it's fastfood.

Are free lunches that prevalent in law school? Lugging around a lunch in a paper bag will make me feel like I'm in middle school again, and a lunchbox would make me feel like I'm in elementary.

I frequently take my lunch to work, so it won't be that different bringing it to campus.
Lunch boxes remind me more of goth kids than elementary school.

Yeah, but what is it? Pizza, soda, or snacky junk food? Who wants to eat that stuff 2-3x a week? By the end of the semester, you'd feel crappy and wouldn't be able to touch your toes.

Or do NU kids get saag baag and spider rolls?

Yeah I didn't know it was a thing at law school until I read the Princeton Review book and that's all they talked about.

Do you actually have to attend the seminar?

I'm guessing you're a while out of undergrad?

No, not really. I just wouldn't want to eat that much junk so often. I don't want to be struggling when I chaturanga.

I'd rather just bring my lunch than waste an hour several times a week doing something I don't care about so I can have a free 1/4 lb of cheese.

Or am I missing something? What does that have to do with UG?

Oh, I guess people eat better at your UG.

Either that, or you're a girl...

So you actually have to go to these seminars to get food?

I don't think you can show up, scam some pizza, and run off without looking like a free-loader. I suppose you could get away with it a few times, but after a while, people would notice.

I'll listen to pretty much anything over pizza. Although our school had a thing for the innocence project that had refreshments. Something about people being condemned to die when they're innocent killed my appetite.

Except for the pizza and the weird wieners, that doesn't sound too bad.

Very prevalent. I'm pretty sure we've had at least two events per week which host lunches.

As to what is on the menu, most of the time it is pizza. The next most popular is Chik-fil-a (chicken wraps, sandwiches, salads). As for the rest, it has been anything from mexican food to an asian buffet.

vegetarian on sub rolls

i am glad there are veggie options.

i really figure it wont be too different for those of us who work full time. i usually bring an apple or an orange from home and then snack on some granola/cheerios, or half a pb&j or something like that. they dont have to be refrigerated, and they are quick and easy to snack on in the middle of the day.

then i go home and cook myself a nice full dinner. i plan on doing the same in law school.
