TLS crowd sources a law review article: bitcoin & bankruptcy
We're going to write a note and get it published in a law review immediately. Because time is short, we're going to do it round-robin style.
(see: here - http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB1 ... reno64-wsj _
I'll kick us off with a quote from Holmes, as all good law review articles should:
Bitcoins and Bankruptcy: Rest of catchy title goes here
The prophecies of what the courts will do in fact, and nothing more pretentious, are what I mean by the law. [FN1]
[FN1] law review editor to find and attribute quote
Keep going.
JACK BAUER NEEDS MORE TIME.

"That's gone now," said Mr. Veerhoos, who is based in Panama City, Panama. "There's no chance of getting that back now."

There is no there there to get you back to where you were before you went there, allowing them to take yours and make it theirs.
Also, caveat emptor. And these emptors were fucking idiots.

Bitcoin will replace the US Dollar in the near future and will be known as the "Destroyer of the Dollar." See, e.g., Jose Pageliry, Ron Paul:Bitcoin could 'destroy the dollar', CNN.COM December 4, 2013, http://money.cnn.com/2013/12/04/technol ... bertarian/

Is this a true croudsource or merely a rehashing of the Bitcoin thread?
As a 0L, I will be sitting this one out. But the concept is intriguing.

Good point. Endnotes make the article so he could write about the quoted author and fill the note with important anecdotes.patogordo wrote:he can subcite. get to work on that opening quote.goldeneye wrote:As a 0L you should be a contributing part of this. Subcite #1 for a citation on Mt. Gox: Magic the Gathering is a fantasy card role-playing game where players battle using images of mythical beings and creatures. How it became the name of a Bitcoin trading platform can only be known by Jace, Architect of Thought.

Why waste time writing articles when the web will do it for you?online article generator wrote:Bitcoin bankruptcy: $463M lost
TOKYO — Mt.Gox, once the world’s largest Bitcoin exchange, filed for bankruptcy in Japan, and said that 850,000 bitcoins, valued at $463 million, belonging to its customers and the firm were missing.
“The company believes there is a high possibility that the Bitcoins were stolen,” Mt.Gox said in a statement. “It is considering filing a criminal complaint.”
The filing follows three weeks of speculation about the fate of the exchange, which suspended withdrawals on Feb. 7. The turmoil left investors asking how the insolvency could happen, and how the fledgling Bitcoin industry can bounce back.
“Mt.Gox is the only exchange that wasn’t backed by venture funds or institutional investors,” Micky Malka, the founder of Palo Alto, Calif.-based Ribbit Capital and a Bitcoin investor, said in an interview. “It will take time for the rest of the Bitcoin ecosystem to prove that this is a bad apple and not a problem of the entire ecosystem.”

INTRODUCTION
Block quote
Bitcoin is a peer-to-peer payment system and digital currency introduced as open source software in 2009 by pseudonymous developer Satoshi Nakamoto. It is a cryptocurrency, so-called because it uses cryptography to control the creation and transfer of money. Conventionally, the capitalized word "Bitcoin" refers to the technology and network, whereas lowercase "bitcoins" refers to the currency itself.
FN: From Wikipedia. Internal citations omitted.

Though BitCoin undeniably has skeptics, it is at its core totally inline with libertarian fundamentals, and thus, should we manage to keep it completely unregulated and away from Government interference, it can never go down. One person in the government that could really help to ensure this is Ron Paul.
