Call me crazy, but some scholarship offers are just dumb

My school just notified me of one such "opportunity." It's for $1,500 and any 2L or 3L in NY can enter. You need to do the usual, understandable stuff -- submit a resume, writing sample, and cover letter describing your interest in a particular area of law -- but you also need two letters of recommendation, one of which is from a law professor, and to write a two page essay that "demonstrates why [you] exemplif[y] [named scholarship party's] core values."
Assuming that at least a hundred students will apply for the scholarship, it is horrifically inefficient for each one of them. There may well be more applicants, based on the thousands upon thousands of eligible applicants, and this scholarship asks each of them to do a non-negligible amount of work and to impose upon their recommenders for a very poor chance at $1,500.
This is just dumb. What say you, TLS FFLSS?

Well yeah, a <1% chance at chump change is not worth your time. Law students are generally pretty bad at assessing their odds of success, tho.
What is FFLSS?

This isn't a haiku.

Since you posted about this, I thought I would share what I heard today along the same lines:
I talked to an admissions officer from a TTT (soon to be TTTT if their medians keep plummeting every year) and asked specifically about scholly stipulations. She responded with some BS like "Well all scholarships have different requirements to keep them" and when I pressed her about the class percentile requirement she said most require you to be in the top 12 percent of the class. 12 PERCENT!
That's not all. She then went on to say that students have no problem keeping such schollies because they are the top students, because they are the smartest, because that's how they got the scholly in the first place.
And then I thought to myself "This is exactly the stuff that TLS warned me about".
So I need to thank TLS. But yeah just thought I'd share that. Hope I didn't waste your time.
Edit: I forgot to mention that tuition is nearly $40,000 per year.
