Me too man. I think it is a common feeling though.

Yeah I think we're all in the same boat here. I'm tempted to do summer classes.

I feel the same way. I'm also waiting on my grades so that I can get them on my resume.

Can someone explain why exactly any organization would be hesitant to take on someone who is at least minimally competent and costs absolutely nothing? I don't understand the supply curve here.

Best advice I was given is to spend some time thinking about less obvious opportunities. Everyone is going to apply to USAO, judges, firms, other fed gigs, big DA offices. You should still do that. However, there are other things like state AG offices, city departments, lesser known non-profits that all offer great opportunities to do substantive work, and will have either less applicants overall or less applicants from elite schools. I personally went the state AG route and came away with some really interesting projects to talk about at OCI.

You have to do the legwork in finding out how to apply to these places, though. Anything posted through the school is going to have heavy traffic.

Have you guys looked at places like Public Service JD or Idealist for non profit work? For me I just applied to a PD office that isn't really close to any law schools and was the first who applied so they were like "sure just come work for free". I guess it depends what you want though.

Also, with going to look at PI/non-profit work, a lot of schools give stipends to help fund those summer jobs. I know my school gives out decent money because they want to encourage PI work because you actually get to do something substantive compared to other opportunities.

I remember getting an e-mail about this at some point, basically that the school or another institution will compensate you for unpaid work. I don't know how they give you, but I suppose it's better than nothing.

Usually just comes in the form of a stipend that you 'apply' for by submitting what your PI summer job is. Obviously each school will be different, but that is roughly what I've seen and heard from various friends at different schools.

Any idea if this kind of thing exists for unpaid judicial internships? I honestly don't understand how can be expected to work for 3+ months and not be compensated in any way.

Especially for people who have to move to new city and pay two rents. That's just not feasible.

It does at my school and I have heard of it at other schools as well.

If you can get course credit for a judicial internship, you can get financial aid (loans). At least, this is what I've been told.

So I would need to pay it back then? That's my basic understanding of what a loan is

I'll ask this question here since this thread is kinder, gentler...

Any good sources to get better at interviews? Like books, websites, anything like that? TSL's What to Expect at OCI post is super helpful but I would like to get better on the actual interview itself when they put you in that little room with two other people and expect you to wow them for 20 minutes. I feel ok about grades, but I do think that my interviewing skills need to be improved if I want to be a success story and not a statistic.

I'm sure practice is probably the credited most helpful thing to do and I plan on getting as much of that in as possible but if anyone has any other ideas/suggestions I would love to hear it.

This really sounds douchey, but I did really well last semester and now I'm just concerned because all I feel like I can really do is go downhill grade-wise or stay about the same. Any recommendations to help continuing doing well and not getting dragged down when other people start to learn how to do better on law school exams?
