It seems like if you got a good LSAT score (can read and analyze quickly) and did well in legal writing, then they are like gimme points. MBE is nice because you don't actually have to memorize.

If it makes you all feel better, I've basically just spent my time memorizing the MBE stuff, and haven't even read or reviewed two California topics yet. I don't even know what trusts and estates or remedies are about.

I plan to try to read and memorize them by test day, but I am banking on having high PT scores, three good MBE-based essays, and a good MBE score. This seems a more effective use of time than memorizing CA topics. I'll just cram for the CA essays last minute and hash out 50s or so.
This might be the way to go for me since I'm pretty confident with the CPTs and not very much about the essays. Feeling just OK with the MBE.

But being paranoid about having to know civ pro et al., I will be doing (i.e., reading the answers and trying to familiarize myself with law I don't know) some essays today.

I'm not anywhere near a law school or any of my friends who are taking the CA bar and I haven't really been able to run questions/hypos/etc. by any law students, so I just set up a chat room for CA bar takers that might be helpful to keep running in the background to pop in and out of occasionally with questions. I found a site that's pretty simple and no registration or anything like that required. I'll keep it up and going until the bar.

If you're interested, go to http://chat.parachat.com/chat/login.html and the room is "California Bar," password = bar.
I really hope this didn't just give me a virus. Warning to others: I tried to enter the room and it seemed spammy.

Did anyone take Estate of Keefe yet? Or attempt to outline it? Does anyone know if Exam Soft allows you to do a double column format like what they're asking in Section III? This part of the PT threw me off, and I don't want to spend the PT time trying to figure stuff like this out.

Dude it's just a shitty website -- you can't expect a free chat room host to NOT look spammy. Two of us in there now I'll be sticking around in there for as long as I'm up tonight. Hoping it'll wind up a good place to drop in with random questions or hash out CA-specific subjects in real time.
Hmm, there was a lot solicitations for sex in the chatroom when I tried to go on there. I get that we're all a little deprived, but c'mon. But I'll try again a little later.

And I answered my own question by going on Exam Soft myself. Looks like it'll just require a lot of tabbing to organize columns if we get one of those questions, because I couldn't find a column option. If anyone knows of another way to make two columns on there, feel free to correct me.

Any idea if this Analysis Spreadsheet is correct (or close to it)?

http://www.lawprism.com/resources.php

"LawPrism's CBX Score Analysis Spreadsheet
The California Bar Exam uses scaling factors to determine each applicant's final score. These factors vary across administrations but are fairly consistent for each July administration and for each February administration.

LawPrism developed an interactive tool using Microsoft Excel that lets you see exactly how well you need to do on the three portions of the exam (i.e., MBE, essays, PTs) in order to achieve a passing score on the California Bar Exam. You may find it surprising how passable the exam really is."

Seems legit, but XD @ 135 raw MBE and 60 average essay being "surprising how passable the exam really is"

How badly can I mess up the essay and still get a 60 anyway?

Dude, Estate of Keefe is brutal. The first section doesn't even have any rule statements attached to it. PLus, the format of the declarations is pretty wild. How they would expect us to do that on exam day is kind of crazy

If you think the website looks suspect then don't go there, but please don't make claims that it's shady if you have no intention of participating.

Also, please direct me to those "several such posts that seem suspect." My post history consists entirely of questions I have about the fucking California bar and questions related to the Themis course. Seriously eat a dick.
TLS's response to this (if we were to construe it as a government) could serve as an interesting hypo.

I see first amendment claims, def content-based, but likely to meet SS. Then we can go into obscenities. Then, pending the wording of the regulation is violates, we can get an overbreadth and vagueness argument going.

Haha... Edited to be a little less intense and so the thread doesn't get derailed.

Looking on BarEssays, they only seem to have handwritten essays for 2002 and 2003, so that might be why.

Anybody know if you can access your examsoft answer files after the test?

Was looking at cal bar model answers for July 2012 and think one of them is mine. Want to verify.

You can't. Well, you can locate the answer files and periodic autosave files, but I don't know of a way to access the contents.

Also, the Bar would ask for your permission before publishing yours (according to the cover page).

Hm maybe I'll ask the bar then. I feel pretty confident it's mine, similar prose and several phrases/sentences I remember writing.

It's not really a great honor. They just post a solid passing essay, not the highest scoring one. They probably just choose at random from essays scoring 70 or 75 or something g

Ironically, the session timed out when I was at the gym for the CA bar chat and the password lapsed and now it's filled with pervs.

To the guy I was talking to in there earlier -- I wouldn't go back in now man. Good talking.
