You'l need roughly a 155 to be auto pass because WV is a bit tougher than Illinois. However, 20% MPT which you should excel at means you can probably just study MBE and MPT and pass by a mile.

I wouldn't waste time studying WV law.

How many words did y'all write for essays? I hit 4,300 for 5 questions, the only session I checked. Pretty lengthy i guess

So I have a question. How far can MBE's be scaled? Since this MBE was absolutely terrible. Poorly worded questions, bizarre fact patterns, obscure law. Everyone I've talked to has said that the MBE was much harder than the essays, and my expectation was that the essays would be the bad day and that the MBE would be a comparative breeze.

After scaling no mbe is harder than any other.

But what is the biggest bump possible is what they're asking. I admit I'm curious, cuz this was way harder than anything Kaplan threw at me.

There is biggest bump possible. Whatever it takes.

You also have to consider the different between practice tests the tell you if you got something write instantly, and taking 200 in a row, under gametime stress and never knowing the answers. Lets say you were unsure about 40 questions. YOu'll randomly get 10 right, probably even more since you can toss out retarded choices. That's still going to be like a 170.

It's like how every LSAT people are screaming about HARDEST LSAT ever, then two year from now nobody says it about that particular PT.

Eh. I thought the LSAT I took was pretty normal. Definitely had harder practice questions.

Everyone last year thought it was the hardest MBE ever. Then I googled it and the same was true for every year. It's the difference of doing it all in a row and not finding out what you got right immediately after it was done. And also random practice questions that don't count.

Yes, everyone was complaining but we only had a curve of like 16-17. Which is more than normal but not crazy.

I think the practice problems contribute a lot to people thinking it was extra hard. Also the fact that we won't know what we did or didn't get wrong right after. Sure there were some things I never studied, but I expected that. It was about on par with Kaplan practices.

I didn't account for how much longer it takes to do it by hand though, so that sucked. Thankfully I made it out before the 15 minute mark each time though.

What does curve of 16-17 mean? Is that included in your raw score? I don't understand what the raw score reflects is it pure number you answered correct or score that includes curve of whatever number.

Took the bar in two states. Scored 158 MBE in state 1. State 2 is 50/50 split, 270 total needed to pass. Does anyone have any insight into where 112 points fits on the essay scale for a given state? I know IL publishes statistics, but are there other resources? PM me if you do.

I'm bumping this thread and wondering how the autopass theory panned out.

Got a 153 last July, passed by a mile. But I did better actually on my MPT/MEE so not sure what it means.

Same. I didn't start essays until the week before, or maybe two weeks before? Basically, I think the MBE focus covers two essays anyway as well and essays are actually pretty easy if you can write competently. Like you punt 2 essays, and you can get half the points on them anyway by just writing well vs the MBE where you can only get points by being right. Doctrine is clearly more important on one of these. I mean, one of our essays I didn't know the doctrine at all and still got 160+ on essays if that tells you anything.

I guess you don't get the benefit of the third essays guaranteed to be civ pro now, but that doesn't matter much.

eta and by write competently, I mean make up a rule and apply it. I think you probably can get the 126 needed to go with a 150 MBE just by doing that but who knows.

165 MBE NY passed. Did a handful of practice essays to nail down format. Didn't study any NY specific material.

160 in a state where mbe is 40% and passed comfortably. Would say that on balance I did pretty horribly on essays. Made up a few of them, got the law wrong, etc.

Does it make a difference if the essays are mixed MEE and state essays? I am not sure of the ratio.

But I am happy to hear how important the MBE is. I've always been better at mult choice than issue spotters, even mini-issue spotters.

IL had mixed MEE and state essays and MPT didn't count for nearly that much, and I was solid studying only MBE subjects. Remember that most of the essays will be entirely about or heavily about MBE topics, as well.
