Should I drop out?

Postby lawbum89 » Thu May 23, 2013 1:30 pm

This would be an otherwise easy question and I would drop out without hesitation but here is the story. The reason I am thinking of dropping out is because I just got my final 1L grades and they were shit for Big Law (3 B+s and 4 Bs). For me it was either Big Law or bust, now that Big Law is out of question I want to drop out. However, I am in a combined JD/MBA and I still want to do the MBA but if I drop out I will not be allowed to do the MBA separately. I also got a 30k scholly for the joint program, so now getting an MBA means an extra year of school and extra 10k.

What's median at GULC. Is your GPA 100% no-biglaw? Or is it just on the less likely side?

If Georgetown's MBA is worth doing, stay in. It seems like the JD costs are already sunk, you'd have to pay for the entire MBA anyway.

BUT is a Georgetown MBA even worth doing? It's not an M7. You probably won't get good advice about that on top-law-schools since nobody here knows shit about MBA programs.

You should also factor in the likelihood you'd get into a better MBA program. And how bad you want to do that sort of work. If GULC MBA is the best you got, and it's probably worthwhile, you stay.

And you probably have some non-zero shot at big lawl. So if you still want it, really gun OCI and MASS MAIL.

What are your grades relative to GULC's median? Also, did you have work experience prior to law school?

GULC is 40% biglaw, 4% fed. clerkship, and 26% public interest, so I would think that you would have a fighting chance, especially with work experience, if you weren't in the bottom 30% or so...

Do you have any ties to secondary or tertiary markets that aren't as grade sensitive?
