Re: The Write On
It is half way through our competition, and they have just now canceled the editing portion of the test, because the guy who runs the competition failed to double check that he had uploaded the right document to our competition page. Unfortunately, thus far I had been focusing exclusively on perfecting the editing part.

Re: The Write On
I'd actually like to hear about how graders/readers approach this process (how much time they spent reading each, biggest mistakes, etc.)rad lulz wrote:Read is too strong a wordstillwater wrote:I can't believe people actually read these over their summers.

Re: The Write On - JESUS, TAKE THE WHEEL
At least at my school, you got a grading sheet with specific criteria, and you ranked the essay on each criterion from 1-5. They were pretty much what you'd expect - organization, use of sources, citations, clear thesis, use of evidence, grammar, that kind of thing. We were also strongly cautioned actually to make 3 the average, and not give everyone 4s and 5s in every category, because the hardest part of grading the things was distinguishing between the masses in the middle. You'd get a few that were clearly superior, a few that sucked, and then a whole bunch of fairly ordinary essays. Time spent reading: most people were grading these in the evenings after work at whatever 2L job they did, so generally, as little as possible. (Also, time spent would vary depending on what the assignment for your school was.)

Agreed and, as I mentioned earlier, although the graders are likely told to read the competition materials, you can bet a lot of them will skip this step.A. Ha. We solved that problem by using the same materials (updated a little) as from the previous year, when we did the competition. Thank god.Bronte wrote:Agreed and, as I mentioned earlier, although the graders are likely told to read the competition materials, you can bet a lot of them will skip this step.A. Re: The Write On - JESUS, TAKE THE WHEEL
Make it up.
Obviously every school is different, but finishing the thing might be 75% of the battle. I'm pretty sure the only reason I made it is because I crushed the Bluebooking, because the "note" I wrote was an unmitigated garbage fire. Turribul. But I finished, mostly because my dad was an editor on his journal in law school and told me journal was super important for jerbs (hint: he was right).
Good luck, poor souls.

Now that I have graduated, I can confirm that LR write-on was the worst experience of my three years of law school.
You're not alone etc.

I haven't graduated but looking back at 1L and 2L years, I'd have to agree.Tangerine Gleam wrote:Now that I have graduated, I can confirm that LR write-on was the worst experience of my three years of law school.
