Corporate Tax Q&A: Welcome to Hell

Postby 3|ink » Mon Apr 15, 2013 4:04 pm

I'm just about done with my corporate tax outline. Post any questions you might have. I might post some myself.

the jump between corporate tax and fed tax is akin to the jump between undergrad and 1L courses.

Ok, maybe that's slight hyperbole, but it's rough.

Is there any reason to take corporate tax if you aren't going into a tax practice group?

Yes. Though I liked federal income tax because it was useful. I can't imagine ever using what I've learned in corporate income tax.

It's probably useful for people doing transactional work, especially M&A. It used to be a required course at a number of schools.

ETA: Corp tax is definitely more complex than income tax, but it's not horribly bad. It's a bit like a series of provisions on like-kind exchanges...on steroids.

Tried to consolidate my 64 page outline into an attack sheet. My attack "sheet" is 25 pages. FML

Corp tax is easier than partnership tax and international tax.

Oh. Well I saw a few corporate tax outlines online while I was putting mine together. A lot of them were bare bones. I get the feeling some schools don't go in as much depth as others. It probably depends on the credits.

Buy the schwarz and lathrope black letter outline e-book bro. Only $25. Read pages 110-450. They're pretty quick, tons of clear examples. Saved my life after doing nothing all semster. You could easily learn the class in like 3-4 solid days with that thing.
