Is it douchey to link to your published note on Facebook?

Post by JCougar » Tue Feb 05, 2013 3:49 pm

People get really pissed when others post their grades on Facebook--and rightfully so. Is linking to the online version of your note in the same category, or is that different?

I want to do this, but I don't want to be insensitive, or cause a ruckus that ends up on Above the Law or something.

Your facebook friends don't want to read your note anyway.

It is my sincere hope that my published note will not be read by anyone ever under any circumstances. The odds that I would advertise it on Facebook are pretty much zero.

If some people want to read it, just send it to them.

Allright, allright. I'm glad I asked. My gut feeling was that this would be different than posting grades.

It's a fine line, though. People post their summer clerkships. I don't think there's anything wrong with that...in fact, it would be silly not to.

I don't think anyone from my school ever posted their summer gigs on FB, actually.

That's what LinkedIn is for. It still looks douchey on facebook.

There's quite a few here that have. It doesn't really bother me, though. I'm on the side that it's sillier not to share. People are going to find out sooner or later anyway.

Anyway, as stupid as legal publications may be, I would think it would be better than posting a picture of your latest fancy meal or how drunk you got last night. In the general scope of petty, histrionic shit I see every hour on Facebook, it would be nice to see something of substance.

People don't use Facebook to see things of substance.

Other people posting different lame stuff on facebook is not a good reason to also post something lame on facebook.

you should consider the possibility that your facebook friends already perceive you as a douche, in which case the consequences of posting may be negligible.

Its only douchey if its not published. Even then, if you create a separate site and put your manuscript on there then at worst its hipster.

No one is probably even going to read it. Most people who aren't in law school won't know what they are even clicking if they do decide to look at it, and no, it is nowhere near as douchy as posting your grades.

Douchey really isn't applicable in this case. I think it might make you look a little strange or socially inept as most people don't associate FB with anything even remotely related to scholarly matters, quite the opposite in fact. I agree with the poster who suggested putting it on LinkedIn.

Make a non-law-school Facebook filter so you can share stuff like that with people who care and won't be pissed off (i.e. your parents). Or just EMAIL THEM.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
