Seriously, this is the worst possible advicePickMe! wrote:What the fuck ever! Dude, blow it. Have fun.
Take this advice. Plus, if your school learns you came into some $$$, they may lower your need-based aid for the next year.Veyron wrote:Although paying off stuff immediately may be tempting, I'd wait till I had an post-graduation offer in hand to do so. That way, if you don't get a 2L SA or you get no offered you still have a safety net. Also, not all firms give bar stipends so it behooves you to have some money set aside for living expenses while you study for the bar even if you do have a job lined up. If you have credit cards though you can pay those off and then use them for bar living expenses when the time comes.
I own a substantial amount of money in stock. What would be a good way for my future law school not to find out? Sell a lot of it and stuff the money under my mattress until I need it?Mick Haller wrote:Take this advice. Save till you graduate, then use it to pay down principal when you are employment secure.
I like your spirit. Nothing shouts "make me an officer of the court empowered with the public's trust" like an attitude of "please help me defraud my law school."bizzybone1313 wrote:I own a substantial amount of money in stock. I don't know if I've mentioned it, but you are my favorite poster.thesealocust wrote: I like your spirit. Nothing shouts "make me an officer of the court empowered with the public's trust" like an attitude of "please help me defraud my law school."

Won't work unless poster is over the age of 26 or so I think; they look at your parents assets as well.Mick Haller wrote:Gift to your parents. Nah, just sell some calls. You'll be rollingDEO3029 wrote:Call Options on Apple. At under 510 a share, you could buy some February or March options for 5k & net out at least an extra 2k.
Not entirely true since I take you to mean T14 as the only non-poisonous school, I go to Univ of Hou, and I had to file my income tax return last year in a very particular way in order to get my FASFA number really low so I could get the need based financial grant they offer.laxbrah420 wrote:This isn't fucking undergrad dude. This might also allow you to get a pretty sweet tax credit.
If you pay some of your own tuition there are tax credits out there. Not sure exactly; maybe lifetime learning and/or one other one?dingbat wrote:badaboom61 wrote:Don't forget that grad plus loans have a f***ing FOUR PERCENT origination fee. I'm fairly certain you can claim the credit even if you're borrowing loans in order to pay for tuitionbadaboom61 wrote:If you pay some of your own tuition there are tax credits out there. Kids under 26 don't need to be going to law school anyways. They end up spazzy on TLS talking about "how do I act on an interview" like some advice is going to magically make it all better.thesealocust wrote:Won't work unless poster is over the age of 26 or so I think; they look at your parents assets as well.Mick Haller wrote:Gift to your parents. So you're outing the fact that you lied on an application? Pretty much if you know any successful farmers ask them who they use as an accountant because those guys know all the loopholes in order to get pretty much any state of federal funded grants that can help their clients, including college ones for their kids.
Correct.dingbat wrote: I'm fairly certain you can claim the credit even if you're borrowing loans in order to pay for tuition
The most obnoxious poster, ladies and gentlemen. If there wasn't a bright line "no telling people to kill themselves" rule on TLS, I'd tell you to kill yourself.BearsGrl wrote: Kids under 26 don't need to be going to law school anyways. I'm just glad that my parents have real estate that could be sold to pay off debt. My parents were always planners and made me start a Roth IRA young. Glad they made me do it.
