hey all

so we have a resume and cover letter workshop by the end of this week. with finals right after

my resume and cover letters will probably need major reconstruction.
if i dont go to the workshops ill have to wait until after break to attend a session.

i WILL have access to my career advisor who will check my stuff.

should i waste time outta my studying to go to these? or focus on studying and ask my career advisor to look over my stuff right after my finals (will this suffice?)

*I am really behind so study time is precious

any input would help

thanks

I went one of those 1L year and it was a huge waste of time. I learned nothing. I would recommend fixing up your stuff on your own (with advice from TLS), sending a final copy to your counselor to proof, and then firing away.

Your career services is stupid for putting it this close to finals. Don't bother. They won't give you anything worthwhile if they can't even figure out a decent schedule for 1Ls to learn about career services on.

I agree completely. The generic events I've attended have been close to completely useless because they're not specific to your situation, even when targeted at people looking to do PI specifically, or large firms specifically, etc. I followed the resume guidelines on our counseling office's website and then met with a counselor, and that was far more useful. I doubt you're missing anything important, and since you're going to have to meet with someone one-on-one anyway, they can tell you anything you might have missed.

Don't bother applying until after finals and you're on break. It won't hurt you at all (most places I applied to wanted to see grades), and in any event, your 1L grades are far more important.
