Suggestion for those of you who feel...

Post by wuduhel » Thu Nov 15, 2012 7:40 pm

...like there is no place else to go, that your life is over, and that you have mountains of non-chargeable debt.

I suggest you consider finding a job in the large yacht industry. Very low barriers to entry and nobody will judge you for having a JD. All you need to do is take the STCW basic safety training course and get a basic medical fitness certificate (ENG-1 or equivalent).

Salary starts at about $3000/month for a deckhand/stewardess with no experience, and captains/chief engineers make up to $250,000. Most of the work is outside the US, so you'll be able to qualify for the foreign earned income tax credit as long as you're outside the US for 330 days per year. Living expenses are paid for, and you can make tons of cash on top of your monthly salary if you're on a charter yacht.

Just a suggestion.

Hmm, decent choice, could be fun for the right person.

Be outside the USA for over 330 days out of the year? No thanks.

You don't have to work on a yacht outside the US for that long. There are plenty that spend time on the east coast and Alaska. But to qualify for the foreign earned income tax credit you would have to. Otherwise you'll pay tax.

I'm just throwing this out there as a realistic way to pay down a shitload of debt in a short period of time while doing some traveling and having fun.

Here are some job descriptions: --LinkRemoved--

Or... remove the JD from your resume, move to Australia and get a job through a temp agency monitoring data for a mining agency for 100-300k a year..

Or work in a law firm there as a legal assistant and make $35-40 an hour and live in a box and pay off your loans.
