How to practice and test yourself?

Post by futurejdgirl » Sun Oct 07, 2012 2:52 pm

1L here.

So we all know the general advice, to read the assigned reading, pay attention in class... but how are we supposed to test our understanding and "application" of the material?

None of my professors have given us old exams and refuse to do so until it's closer to exam time. However, I feel like we've learned a substantial amount of information up to this point and I have no idea how to assess how well I understand the information.

Any advice on how to assess whether or not you really KNOW the material you're reading about? Right now, I'm currently going through Corbin on Contracts to supplement my understanding but I'm still not sure if this is useful or not. I feel like anyone could read these treatises and the readings but it's about applying it and I don't know how/where to practice applying it correctly!

Any advice appreciated.

Use an E&E. They have a variety of questions for each topic/sub-topic. This will be more useful for you right now, as the questions make sure you understand the nitty gritty parts of each area. A past exam will include a full semester's worth of material, and you will waste the exam right now imo b/c you have not learned enough to answer a significant amount of the issues.

You can use exams from profs other than your own. I'd also tell your profs to go fuck themselves for treating you like children and waiting to give you stuff.

http://lawmedia.pepperdine.edu/exam/examlookup.php

that should work they have a million tests and some model answers. I found this somewhere on this site a while back and used it 1L.
