Kaplan bar review course starts BEFORE graduation!

The Kaplan bar review course for the state I plan on taking starts a full week BEFORE my school's commencement. Anyone else have this problem?

Barbri, meanwhile, doesn't have its schedules up on the website (at least not yet).

Last year, depending on the state/bar exam, the first week for both courses (Kaplan/BarBri) generally was MBE review (e.g., 50 MBE practice q's followed by a three hour video recap). The actual bar review course generally started the second week (lecture, fill in the black outline, etc.).

Thanks for the info. Interesting... they do MBE practice Q's before doing MBE review? lol, I don't remember anything from first year courses. Totally screwed?

I'm hypothesizing here, but I think the first week is more about getting students scared ("motivated") into taking bar prep seriously, than actually learning substantive material. Many of the MBE questions involved topics that were not covered first year (i.e., the open mines doctrine, riparian water rights, right of redemption). It made people feel like crap because they were getting the questions wrong.

Most of my friends took that first week off and went on a week long bender.

It also (theoretically) provides a gauge for where you start, and then see how you improve as you learn and take more practice questions. But, I agree, it's probably more of a scare tactic.

I know for Kaplan that they are offering the MBE portion (the first week) all online regardless of whether you're taking the class Live On-site, On-site with the video playing, or online only. I think it's to address this very problem that prep starts before several schools' graduation, and not everyone will be where they plan to take the course.

By the way, where'd you find the schedule for your state? The one I'm seeing for my state is the schedule from this summer, and the Bar was a week earlier than it's going to be next year.
