W/r/t picking paper topics, "tentative descriptions," time management, and presentations.

W/r/t picking paper topics,
Survey the material. Find a topic that really interests you, and a couple more topics. Look into each potential topic for a short time to assess which one will work best. If I knew the subject, I could give ideas...

"tentative descriptions,

An outline of the paper is what I would turn in if required. Tenative means "subject to change by the author" IMHO.

" time management,

Go organize some material in any subject right now. Do not think of studying. You are only organizing material for five or ten minutes. Before you know it, over two hours have gone by, and you have accomplished a great deal of work.

and presentations

That answer will be clearer after you decide the topic.
